We can all see the desperation of Lees. Clear evidence the Australian climate has become warming—over the period 1951–2015—“doesn’t mean anything.”

It means the Australian climate has warmed, Lees. Pretty obvious, not?

We know AGW is blocking IR from escaping to space so the planet cannot quite get rid of all the energy the sun pours onto the day face. We see here the effect on our corner of the globe.

Cherry picking the BoM to talk about Australian climate?

How many temperature stations in Australia? Why did they only pick 104? And that is not cherry picking? Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

The graphs show that the Australian climate is warming, right Lees?

Hmm. I guess that puts your "warming since the LIA" as a misstatement of fact. Wink

"Pretty obvious, not?"

Not. Fancy cherry picking; I'm shocked.

So AGW has warmed the Australian climate.

Pretty clear from the graphs.

OK, Booby could not answer a simple question about what Arctic temperatures were recovering from in early NH spring.

Booby’s hero Dubyne had earlier lied and said the Arctic had not warmed. He isn’t very bright, obviously, as he forgot that lie and said Arctic temperatures were recovering.

Sucked in by an obvious liar. How sad.

Arctic ice recovering is something Dubyne is always saying, yet Arctic ice is in a long term, multi decadal, decline.

Dubyne a couple of years ago said that the next summer the NW Passage would be blocked by thick ice—that summer a big cruise ship sailed the NW Passage without needing icebreaker support.

You want to talk to me about your idiotic ice age, Booby, you will have to do it here and you will have to answer my question first.

What, early this NH spring, were Arctic temperatures supposed to be recovering from?

Arctic ice decline:

...

Most recent:
...

Global temperature trend:
...

Obviously, the world is not moving into an ice age, only the deluded, the gullible and the brain and mind damaged can believe we are moving into an ice age. Nevertheless there is a platoon of snake oil sellers deluding people, like Booby, that we are moving into an ice age. Just look on Twitter searching the hashtags of #grandsolarminimum, #globalcooling, #miniiceage etc.

Parts of the Arctic were above 0.0°C for 61 days this NH winter just past. Sixty one days above freezing in the middle of the Arctic winter! There is something awesome about that fact. The 2016/17 winter saw similar winter warming. Before winter 2016/17 there were Arctic winter warming events but not back to back like in the previous two winters.

Now, how does the Arctic warm in winter? The sun is not even above the horizon for months! Deluded numpties like Booby and Lees here would say “volcanoes!” Unfortunately for them those volcanoes and the ones under West Antarctica have been there for millions of years and there have been no major eruptions explaining the retreat of the ice.

The Arctic warms in winter by warm air pushing in via a high pressure ridge over Siberia. The “Beast from the East” was Arctic air pushed out from the Arctic. The Beast from the East got all the attention from Dubyne and his fellow snake oil sellers and the warm Arctic got ignored. Globally temperatures did not drop while the Beast from the East chilled parts of Europe, the average northern hemisphere temperature remained above normal.

The Arctic warming in winter affects what is called the Arctic Vortex. I will need to explain that, I guess.

In the tropics the air is warm and by the gas laws the atmosphere there expands—the limit of the atmosphere is high. In the polar areas the air is cold and the atmosphere contracts, the limit of the atmosphere is low. Just like a kid riding his gokart down a hill the air in the upper layers of the tropical atmosphere are pulled by gravity to where the upper atmosphere is lower, over the poles.

So this Vortex is air coming down over the Arctic. The Coriolis force turns this into a band of wind around the limit of the Vortex which keeps the Arctic air contained.

Obviously, when the Arctic is warmed the poiar vortex weakens and Arctic air can be pushed out of the Arctic, creating the Beast from the East and the cold spring in the NE of the US.

I have posted YouTubes by a renowned atmospere scientist, search the thread here and watch them and hopefully learn.

A word about Grand Solar Minima.

A solar minimum of sunspots happens roughly every 11 years and then a new sun cycle starts and the sunspot count increases. Throughout this the output of the sun remains constant.

But there are times when the period of the low sunspot count extends into decades. During these times the solar radiation goes into a small decline for the period of the minimum.

The term “Maunder Minimum” gets bandied about a bit. Let you look it up on wiki. The Maunder Minimum coincided with a cold (not the coldest tho) part of the so-called Little Ice Age. So the snake oil sellers are telling the deluded that a new Maunder Minimum is coming, crops will fail and you better buy this “survival food” at reasonable price. . .

The actual science shows that if the sun does go into a GSM over the next couple of years then the globe will cool by. . .0.3°C AT MOST!

The world, as you can see from the temperature anomaly graph I posted above, has warmed about 1.2°C so a 0.13 or a 0.3°C cooling. . .would hardly be noticed!

Hmmm, interesting. This:

...

is a chart of sea ice extent. I have highlighted the last few years. If you look at the months of January and February—this winters sea ice extent is lower than in previous winters. Just confirms the Arctic winter warming Dubyne lied about and said didn’t happen.

Source of the graph: https://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/charctic-interactive-sea-ice-graph/

It is an interactive graph, have a play with it.

Wow.  a lot of nonsense.

Chart of Arctic sea ice to 1953? using 11,000 processors to re-analyse the data? Grin Grin Grin

A chart purporting to be Estimated temperatures back to 1880, with the data down to 0.01C? Never mind that there were few stations, never mind the inherent instrument inaccuracies at that time about +/-1C, never mind the reading uncertainties about  +-0.5C; we'll just average them out too. oh look uncertainties of +/-1.5c; and you said temperatures had gone up how much? 1.1C. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Then the next ice chart from 1979, and anomalous high according to the IPCC chart. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

You are so funny.

BTW - lovely Spaghettti graph. I am not sure what it is you are trying to show. Such a mishmash of colours.

Cider making.

I did do it once, as part of a beer/wine making club, bought 40L granny smith juice, pitched it with EC1118 white wine yeast.

Boring.

Have tasted cider made from a combination of eating apples: boring.

Real cider is made from cider apples. These have tannins that can give a decent mouthfeel and add bitterness to a cider, other varieties have less tannins but are sharper. There are sweet cider apples with little tannin and acid—they are used to tone down a cider that is too sharp or too bitter.

Cider apples are either bittersweet, bittersharp or sweet.

Bittersweet—these have high tannins and high fermentable sugar. You can eat these but likely won’t finish eating one—bitter, tannic!

Bittersharp—have tannins and are acidic, bit less fermentable sugar

Sweet—neither bitter nor sharp, just a dilutent really.

Now, when a brewer mashes a heap of malt and runs off the sweet wort it has fermentable sugars to give alcohol and some non–fermentable dextrines (the brewer can control the sugar:dextrine mix by mash temperature) to give some body to the beer. Obviously, a cidermaker cannot do anything like that: he picks, mills and crushes the juice when the apples are ripe—they are ripe when they fall off the tree. However, there is a non-fermentable sugar called sorbitol that gives some body to ciders and perries.

I won’t have to spend much money on yeast! Real cider is juice pressed from milled (aka scratted) apples, run into a fermenter and left to get on with it! Just the yeast on and in the apples will ferment the juice.

See if it works like that in Tassie  Smiley

I will also plant dwarf perry pear trees.

Perry is like cider but it is MUCH better, apparently. Must take some time out in Sep and find some real cider and perry.

Perry pears, unlike cider apples, can’t be eaten: fibrous, tough and hard. Actually, this makes it easier to mill/scrat and press them.

Not even pigs will eat perry pears.

Only two useful perry varieties in Tassie, Yellow Huffcap and Gin. Surprisingly, well to me any way, beurre bosc is also considered a perry pear, puts a bit of pear flavor in the perry. Will have two, some for eating, some for perry.

These won’t be planted until later, dwarf trees grow fast and bear fairly quickly.

Gonna be fun!

For a clown who can’t even google:
Quote:
The largest cruise ship to ever sail the Northwest Passage is en route to New York City from Alaska.

The Crystal Serenity left Seward, Alaska, in mid-August and plans to dock in New York on Sept. 16.

The ship sailed up the Bering Strait, and made a port call in Nome where guests got a chance to see a herd of wild musk oxen that had taken up residence just outside town. The ship then continued north until reaching the Arctic Ocean, and then east toward Greenland.

The melting Arctic is making this type of trip possible. The irony isn’t lost on Michael Byers, a professor in the political science department at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He calls it “extinction tourism.”

Liar Dubyne had claimed that the NW passage would be filled with thick ice. I tried to look for that YouTube but the liar had quietly removed it from his playlist  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

A second lie by Liar Dubyne.

He told me that ice in the Arctic would be 4 metres thick by end of winter. It was but 2 metres thick.

David Dubyne lied and said the winter in Australia was cold. It was warm. Third lie by Liar Dubyne.

He also said that the harvest was bad, said something about 70% failure—another lie, maybe a farm or two in some district had a bad year. The wheat harvest last year was 2% above the long term average harvest.

Lie after lie after lie. Booby’s hero, a big liar. A liar who set out to deceive and scare foolish and gullible and damaged people so he could get donations from them and eyes on his fatuous YouTubes for advertising revenue. I think he is also behind or has a share in “survival foods” advertised on every one of his miserable lying videos.

Then the most gullible fool gets made Mod of Environment and all you can talk about is the lying videos.

Pure snake oil.
