AGW is powering along, Beast from the East notwithstanding. Warm Arctic, cold Europe, overall temperature warmer than average.

—walking back from OfficeWorks I talked to a fellow pedestrian. Turned out she was here for a little while and experienced the Beast from the East: it wasn’t nice—

We can expect some things:

The Jet Stream slowing, weakening and becoming wavy, A deep loop can bring Arctic air quite a way south. If a loop or a ridge gets stuck then weather patterns get stuck, e.g. the five year CA drought, a series of storms that hit the UK/W Europe a few years ago and this year a series of three strong NE storms. Rising sea levels will see more floods especially along the US east and Gulf coasts, just ask Boston.

The latest development is the incursion into the Arctic of warm air, pushing out the Arctic air that became the Beast from the East. Happened 2016/2017 and again in 2017/2018. 2017/18 saw the strongest incursion of warm air.

I think this is a trend, a new AGW phenomenon. Warm air incursions and associated winter ice melt would not happen without ocean warming by AGW. It is still establishing so 2018/19 NH winter may not have the warm air incursion etc but the trend will grow stronger, driven by AGW as I said. Oceans are not cooling and feed storms with more energy and more moisture so storms are increasingly able to move into the Arctic bringing with them the heat from oceans in lower latitudes.

Then again of course they are only going back to 2010. So what happened in the years before?

They just don't know how much those grounding lines have moved in the past. And we are supposed to be worried? Grin
