BTW - were those temperatures over the entire Arctic or at selected spots?
And what is the NORMAL temperature of the Arctic? And when was it derived?

Were there higher temperatures that contributed to the 1951 - 1980 average? That is how averages work.

Bringing this to the front again:

...

Quote:
While global emissions of heat-trapping pollution appear to be stabilizing, they have not shown any signs of decreasing, which would be necessary to slow climate change. Rising temperatures are worsening floods, storms and wildfires around the world.

“Right now, when you sum the actions of all countries, even under the Paris agreement, it’s insufficient to mitigate dangerous, human-caused climate change,” said Matto Mildenberger, a political scientist at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

“Different countries move forward on climate issues with their own rhythm in response to domestic political factors,” Mildenberger said. “It’s naive to think that pro-climate forces will be in power across the world at the same time.”

Here’s a trip around the world, assessing how pro-climate and anti-climate forces are faring in key nations and regions and showing how recent developments are affecting the languishing fight against global warming.

Can you cite the peer-reviewed studies for this or are they relying on modelling? Wink

On models that actually work? Yes,

Now if we built an aeroplane from a model with as many assumptions as climate models, then that would be a different story. Wink

Nope. But keep trying. Wink

"Hundreds of new plants

India’s government insists the new plants are needed to take care of the approximately 300 million people with no access to electricity.

Its 2015 INDC plans submitted before the Paris COP imply an increase of over 300 GW of coal by 2030. Taking the current US average size of a coal plant as a benchmark, that’d be nearly 600 new coal plants."

http://energydesk.greenpeace.org/2016/10/03/climate-india-coal-power/

"After years of “binge-building” new coal plants, China is expected to suspend development of all new coal-fired power generators until the start of 2018, as part of its 13th Five Year Plan for the energy sector, according to state media reports"

"As The Wall Street Journal reported in May, China already has more power-generating capacity than any other country in the world and is projected to add nearly 200GW of new thermal power capacity between 2015 and 2017, most of it coal-based."

http://reneweconomy.com.au/china-set-ban-new-coal-plant-development-31659/

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Good intentions count for nought.

You do know the difference between suspend and cancel?

The new boss of the Australian Energy Market Commission has described an emissions intensity scheme, currently ruled out by the Turnbull government, as the most effective policy for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

The Coalition is becoming more and more isolated on this.

This is from Saturday—been busy.

Something will have to be done, but obviously not by the Libs. Hopefully the stupid Greens can’t stuff this scheme up!

While nothing happens on an intensity scheme jobs are being lost:

Quote:
The uncertainty of Australia’s carbon policy is causing reduced investment, including in renewable energy, regulators have told a parliamentary committee. Officials from the Australian Energy Market Commission told the standing committee on the environment and energy on Friday that an emissions intensity scheme was the best solution to end uncertainty because it was technology neutral and could respond to variables such as high gas prices.

Funny how AEMO was slammed for the SA report, but all is good for an opinion on an energy emissions scheme. Wink

Really? Not skewed towards renewables? Of course if, as they keep telling us, they are now cost effective, they can do it without subsidies.
