I was talking about what Prof Rignot said in that video.

The giant Petermann glacier is about to start retreating, adding more ice going to the sea. There is one other giant glacier in Greenland if that goes (the third floodgate in Rigot’s talk) then it will lose massive amounts (more than the present 280Gtons per year) of ice.

Prof Rignot said the Petermann glacier had destabilised and would start adding to sea level ice loss.

25 years experience studying glaciers and ice sheets.

Talking crap like that may make you feel you are a big man but it counts for nothing.

Frost replaces winter rain in Canberra

Ben Domensino, Thursday August 31, 2017 - 16:41 EST

Canberra just had its driest and frostiest winter in more than 30 years.

Clear skies are conducive to the formation of frost during winter months, so dry weather and cold nights often accompany each other. This season, Canberra had a surplus of both.

The nation's capital city only received 68.6mm of rain during winter, which is just over half of its long-term average for the season. This made it Canberra's driest winter since 1982. Rain fell on 29 days, which is five less than usual and the lowest number of rain days in five years.

The city registered 60 nights below zero degrees in winter, dragging the season's average minimum temperature down to -1 degree. This made it the coldest winter in 35 years based on minimums.

In contrast to the chilly nights, Canberra's maximum temperature during winter (13.5C) was more than a degree warmer than usual and the warmest in four years.

Based on the mean temperature of 6.3 degrees (combining minimums and maximums), Canberra had its coolest winter in 17 years.

Well, you said you are about the same age as me and if anybody is mewling it is you mewling because the temperatures keep increasing.

Prof Rignot has seen the Petermann has started retreating.

I don’t suppose you heard how the Jacobshavn glacier gets deeper and deeper as it retreats inland meaning that more and more ice will melt as ocean waters reach a higher and higher ice face?

We are well on the way to that 9 metre sea rise.

oh yuck yuck yuck.

Suggest you watch that video, it is only 10 minutes long. Petermann glacier, like Jacobshavn, gets deeper inland, meaning more and more ice gets melted/calved the further the glacier retreats. Jacobshavn is up to a mile high, with a relatively small amount of that above sea level.

Do nothing, act to stymie action on AGW—makes that melting and consequent sea level rise all the more certain and sooner. As someone unmanned by AGW I would have thought you would want this delayed/prevented. But I guess you are so scared you don’t even want to think about AGW. So why do you continue to post your drivel here? Afraid real discussion might scare you more?

I see Pen Hadow, whose aim was to sail too the North Pole, has turned back. Too much sea ice, too dangerous to proceed..

"A meeting of the four skippers was held led by Erik de Jong, with Pen Hadow present, and it was agreed further northward progress would increase considerably the risks to the expedition, with very limited scientific reward. The decision to head south, back to an area of less concentrated sea ice in the vicinity of 79 degrees 30 minutes North, was made at 18.30 (Alaskan time)."

About 24 hours before the turnaround.

I can believe that...its beena really good winter actually  I like frost to a certain extent as it kills lots of germs when we havent had the rain to wash the streets......its been pretty good we did have nasty winds for a while...but its winter we expect cold...
