Monk's theory works like this.
There are greenhouse gasses, CO2 is a greenhouse gas, there is global warming, therefore it must be because of CO2 because its a greenhouse gas.

roach has no idea about AGW. That CO2 is a greenhouse gas has been known since about 1850. Arrhenius added to this late in the 1800s and refined his work in 1906.

I have shown that the amount of IR reaching space from the surface of the earth is decreasing as GHG concentrations rise.

...
See how there is less IR reaching the satellite at the various bands representing the GHGs over time as the GHGs increase in concentration.

A study of IR reaching the surface, that is IR that left the surface but, by absorption and re-emission from GHG molecules, is sent back to the surface.

...

Less heat can escape, the inevitable result is the world is heating up. BTW roach, that graph is not temperature but IR radiation redirected back to the surface by CO2.

We are talking about the mechanism (see the second post in the locked thread in Relationships) not correlation implies causation.

But roach can’t let himself know this.

Anyway, let us look at the state of Arctic ice:

...

...

The Arctic sea ice extent is nearly as bad as that in the year 2012:
...

And Greenland:
...

...

Oh yeah, you can see we are in an Ice Age  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Doesn't feel like winter here.

Nights are cool  BUT 29 C..  28 C almost everyday this August ..gawd..even in July!!

Some places in Australia are expecting 13C above average tomorrow, (today)  and next week we're going to have 30C.
This is still WINTER.
Sad Sad
Think my air-con is going to get a real work out this summer. It is already drying out here. Glad I don't live in Southern states.

If there was a blip of cold Booby, it sure isn't happening here.  WISH IT WAS.

If there was a grand solar minimum there is now so much CO2 in the atmosphere it would cool down like .5°C at most, less than half the warming since preindustrial times.

Been caught out again have you.

Thanks for proving me right about you once again.

"Identifying mechanisms driving spatially heterogeneous glacial mass-balance patterns in the Himalaya, including the ‘Karakoram anomaly’, is crucial for understanding regional water resource trajectories. Streamflows dependent on glacial meltwater are strongly positively correlated with Karakoram summer air temperatures, which show recent anomalous cooling. We explain these temperature and streamflow anomalies through a circulation system—the Karakoram vortex—identified using a regional circulation metric that quantifies the relative position and intensity of the westerly jet. "

http://www.nature.com/nclimate/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nclimate3361.html?foxt...

"Co-author Professor Hayley Fowler, says this Karakoram vortex goes some way to explaining why the glaciers in this region are behaving differently to those in most other parts of the world.

"While most glaciers are retreating as a result of global warming, the glaciers of the Karakoram range in South Asia are stable or even growing," explains Professor Fowler, Professor of Climate Change Impacts at Newcastle University."

Growing despite AGW? Oh dear.

"Scientists have uncovered the largest volcanic region on Earth – two kilometres below the surface of the vast ice sheet that covers west Antarctica.

The project, by Edinburgh University researchers, has revealed almost 100 volcanoes – with the highest as tall as the Eiger, which stands at almost 4,000 metres in Switzerland.

Geologists say this huge region is likely to dwarf that of east Africa’s volcanic ridge, currently rated the densest concentration of volcanoes in the world."

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/12/scientists-discover-91-volcanos-an...

From the Garudian with the obligatory hat-tip to climate change.

"This is in addition to 47 already known about and eruption would melt more ice in region affected by climate change."

Ne paper -

"Re-calibration of Arctic sea ice extent datasets using Arctic surface air temperature records

Abstract
A new seasonal and annual dataset describing Arctic sea ice extents for 1901-2015  was  constructed  by  individually  re-calibrating sea  ice  data  sources  from the three Arctic regions (North  American,  Nordic  and  Siberian)  using  the  corresponding surface air temperature trends for the pre-satellite era (1901-1978), so  that  the  strong  relationship  between  seasonal  sea  ice  extent  and  surface  air  temperature  which  has  been  observed  for  the  satellite  era (1979-present)  also  applies to the pre-satellite era. According to this new dataset, the recent period of Arctic  sea  ice  retreat  since  the  1970s  followed  a  period  of  sea  ice  growth  since the mid-1940s, which in turn followed a period of sea ice retreat since the 1910s. Arctic sea ice is a  key  component  of the Arctic hydrological cycle both through its freshwater   storage role,   and   its   influence on oceanic and atmospheric circulation. Therefore, these new insights have significance for our understanding of Arctic hydrology."

The scare story about the Arctic is Bovine Scat. Wink

The Arctic is a dynamic piece of globe. It shouldn't be looked at in isolation.
