Trump vows ‘insurance for everybody’
Jan 17th, 2017 at 12:07am

Good to see reasonable words coming out of Trump's mouth. The GOP will hate him for this:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-vows-insurance-for-everybody-in-ob...

Quote:
President-elect Donald Trump said in a weekend interview that he is nearing completion of a plan to replace President Obama’s signature health-care law with the goal of “insurance for everybody,” while also vowing to force drug companies to negotiate directly with the government on prices in Medicare and Medicaid.

I will give credit to Trump:  he sees the hell that is awaiting Republican Congress members and is giving himself a way out.

Trump is saying all the right things but the political reality of the GOP will bite him.

Actually, if he follows through on illegal aliens and illegal foreign worker employment enforcement, there are a lot of costs that could be contained, making healthcare more affordable for citizens and legal immigrants.
Congress expanded Medicaid to include illegal immigrants, children (through CHIP, Children’s Medicaid), and pregnant women.

Because of the U.S. Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1986 (42 U.S.C.), most hospitals may not refuse anyone treatment for an emergency medical condition because of citizenship (illegal aliens), legal status, or ability to pay. An example of the cost conflict between federal government, state and local government, and private institutions, is that the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) brings injured and ill illegal aliens to hospital emergency rooms, but does not pay for their medical care. Almost $190 million, or about 25 percent, of the uncompensated costs Southwest border county hospitals incurred, resulted from emergency medical treatment provided to illegal immigrants.
Medicaid paid $2.2 billion last year to partially reimburse hospitals for unpaid illegal alien delivery bills.

"Parkland Hospital in Dallas Tx is home to the second busiest maternity ward in the country with almost 16,000 new babies arriving each year. (That's almost 44 per day — every day)

A recent patient survey indicated that 70 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants.' Crikey, that's 11,200 anchor babies born every year just in Dallas. According to the article, the hospital spent $70.7 million delivering 15,938 babies in 2004 but managed to end up with almost $8 million dollars in surplus funding. Medicaid kicked in $34.5 million, Dallas County taxpayers kicked in $31.3 million and the feds tossed in another $9.5 million.

The average patient in Parkland's maternity wards is 25 years old, married and giving birth to her second child. She is also an illegal immigrant. By law, pregnant women cannot be denied medical care based on their immigration status or ability to pay. OK, fine. That doesn't mean they should receive better care than everyday, middle-class American citizens. But at Parkland Hospital, they do.

Parkland Memorial Hospital has nine prenatal clinics. NINE. The Dallas Morning News article followed a Hispanic woman who was a patient at one of the clinics and pregnant with her third child — her previous two were also born at Parkland. Her first two deliveries were free and the Mexican native was grateful because it would have cost $200 to have them in Mexico."

The program known as "Obamacare" isn't working, but there's no reason to think we can't have good, affordable healthcare and insurance for Americans.

Me too. Getting illegals out of the health care system would certainly help things, how could it not? But you have to understand that "Obamacare" is a *conservative* Band-Aid that dates back to about 1989 and was created as an alternative to a complete overhaul of the American healthcare system. Romneycare (the achievement Mitt was most proud of but couldn't talk about) shares the same genesis as Obamacare. This  Band-Aid, whatever name you want to call it, sits on top of a dysfunctional system, and there is no Republican (and very little Democratic) political will to overhaul this system, none at all, and never has been, so the percentage of the GDP that is eaten up by healthcare costs goes up and up and up? When will it reach 20%? Won't be long now. When will parts of the American healthcare system break down completely? Now that Obamacare is leaving that day will come that much sooner, and I suspect that that is what it will take for the political will for an overhaul to be found. But emptying the country of all illegals and thinking that it will solve all problems with health care in America is just more magical thinking.

Pray tell how one would go about that? Even Obama in his mass deportations could not rid America of all illegals (and yes, you Euro-trash limeys, I'm talking to you, too).

Even been to Mexico? Ever seen their health care system?  You'd be crossing the border too.

There is no solution. No wall is going to fix matters. The only thing America can do is flat out turn away illegals in Emergency Rooms and I do see that day coming.

You can't get them all out. You can't even get most of them out. But there could be measures put in place to cut back on access to the health care system by them. I agree with AuntieM - the illegals do suck resources away from American citizens. But to think that if we just got rid of the illegals all would be well with American health care is just stupid.

This is government at its stupidest and most conniving. First the Republicans say they don't want Health Care legislation, but it becomes law. Then they make out its too expensive, and they say "We told you so."

Then they turn around and say they'll have Health Care legislation, only they have to throw out the legislation first. So they are going to waste time and money reinventing the wheel, when they could simply fix it, if it really needs fixing. But of course, then it wouldn't be Republican. These bastards don't want to save money, they want to spend it on their projects.

They were supposed to get rid of health care, that was their election ideology. It would be reasonable for their voters to say hold on, we voted against health care, not just democratic health care.

Well that will be fun to watch. REpublicans hate him and only tolerate him because he won. I'm just waiting for his massive tax cuts which will cost the USA 2-3 TRILLION dollars a year. Or more. Trump has extensive experience in bankruptcy so beware. It is one of his few skills.
