Victoria's Government is pushing ahead with plans to become the first Australian state to ban the sale of puppies and kittens from pet shops unless they are from a rescue shelter.

After my little jack russell got run over, I looked for another puppy for months - tried every conceivable avenue. Then, one afternoon, a guy posted on a community page of Facebook that I subscribed to, that he had a litter of Jack Russell pups for sale. After contacting him, I went the 50 or so Kms to pick the puppy up and he told me he had to take the posting down, and would probably have to change his mobile number, because of the treatment he received online. He was threatened, called a puppy farm owner, swore at and a heap of other things on his phone that I will not repeat here.

I did get a lovely little puppy that we have had for a few months now and I love him to bits, but I feel so sorry for the poor innocent bugger who was only trying to rehome some pups he could not afford to keep and only wanted to go to good homes.

I want a Ball Tearier or a Jack Russell ... small, short-haired, and good to sit in the car with me strapped into a pet harness (not me, the dog).... I used to carry a pet rabbit with me on the road.... he loved it... lie down on the seat and enjoy the warm trip..... and Cleo the chicken loved her trips to town and riding on the big mower with The Boss sitting on the steering wheel (not the Boss) .... but turned out to be Clitus and just as stroppy.... she/He was hatched by a duck....

I'm looking at online sites since I'm an MP and can't afford big costs. No hound would be ill-treated by going to a Moneyless Pensioner who doesn't want to fork out $150 or more plus council fees plus fencing off the back yard.

yes it is buying a pet from the RSPCA but I think its to make people think twice dogs end up in the pound/RSPCA because of bad owners in the first place hoss.....and these animals deserve a decent home the second time round dont you think???....when you buy a pup elsewhere you still have to have it micro chipped desexed vaccinated....all huge costs these days.. and thats already done for you at the pound...
think about what happens to that animal if no one buys it?.. Cry

That is a yes and no Leftwinger, I am on an age pension the vic Government makes chipping and DE-sexing with shots mandatory, at the local pound that equates to 360 odd dollars up front.

The pound has them killed after a month sometimes less. Many good owners will have problems with the cost. Thereby mandating the animals death?

Punish the offenders not the protectors would be a better option,
I have two from the pound one twenty years old the other four, the pup from friends.
Thing of the past now to get an animal from the pound.
