Expecting To Tell 600 Staff To Be Made Redundant

Union fears for safety as Airservices cuts up to one in five jobs
July 18 2016
Canberra Times

The agency managing the country's airspace will start shedding up to one in five of its staff this week, but workers say their employer won't discuss how the job losses will affect safety.   Sad

From Wednesday, Airservices Australia is expected to tell up to 600 of its staff they will be made voluntarily redundant, though the organisation reportedly has plans to retrench a further 300.

Unions have demanded access to the findings of Airservice Australia's safety reviews.

The employees will be largely corporate-services staff, most of whom work in Canberra and Brisbane.   Sad

Airservices chief executive Jason Harfield, who was appointed to the job earlier this year, has excluded "frontline" employees, such as air-traffic controllers and firefighters, from the cuts.

However, a union says the agency has refused to reveal the findings of a safety review of the job losses, which the agency was legally obliged to carry out.   Sad

Professionals Australia's ACT director, David Smith, said engineers and technicians were among those who had applied for a redundancy package, leading to fears that Airservices' work could be compromised.

"If they've done a safety review, they should be sharing the results with staff and with the public," Mr Smith said.

"We need to see that they've covered off all the likely safety risks of a change of this magnitude.

Airservices Australia is expected to announce on Wednesday which staff have been made redundant.   Sad

"There's too much public interest at stake in ensuring that we don't have unnecessary dangers creep into the delivering of our air services."

However, the organisation said this week it had completed the safety review as required, and was "working through a detailed and thorough process to reduce the size of our corporate centre and ensure the safety of our operations is maintained".

"We understand the difficulty and uncertainty this [redundancy process] creates for staff and we want to progress through this as quickly as possible," a spokeswoman said.

"We will continue to deliver our air-traffic control and aviation-rescue firefighting services to serve our customers during this internal change.

"Streamlining our corporate centre is a necessary process if we are to become a more efficient and agile business."

Staff will have two weeks to decide whether to accept the redundancy offer.

The government-owned corporation employs about 4400 people, most based in Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra.

It is set to make its first loss this year, of about $13.5 million, and hopes to slash its costs by $100 million in coming years.

Mr Harfield told Fairfax Media earlier this month that because Airservices' revenue came from airlines, "it was not going to go down well for us to put up our prices when there is a view we are inefficient".

"Our previous operating model served us well, but it became unsustainable. Now we are focusing on what we were chartered to do: aviation control, rescue safety and firefighting."

In China they assign a street for a person to clean all day.
That is their job, clean the street, nothing more.

Pretty soon that is what Govco will do........
Oh that's right, they already do, they clean the sides of the road, for barely enough to eat on.

Govco....Thieves, crooks, and slave runners of the 21st century.

The Creatures don't have an answer

The problem is one kids from Grade One could analyse and articulate, however

All of which proves the Creatures are FAR, FAR short of that IQ they claim for themselves

Who is going to be able to afford all the mass-produced, imported carp?

Not the unemployed, that's for sure

How did they become unemployed?

It's because the Creatures arranged for manufacturing, producing to be sent overseas

For a while, it worked.  The Creatures and their subs made big money

Now, it's all slowing down.  Few container ships plying international waters these days

Overseas, warehouses are filled to the rafters but no orders

In the West, unemployment soars

People on welfare, unemployed for life

Unemployed, on welfare, so not paying tax, not buying property or much else

The future looks to be filled with more of the same

Western governments are looking to the Creatures for answers

But the Creatures don't have any answers.  The Creatures are driven by greed, stupidity and insatiable lust to control

Now the Creatures are feeling it financially too

Let's see who blinks first ---- the ever-increasing pool of talent and industry now unemployed and on welfare

or the Creatures and their puppets as they realise they've backed themselves into a blind alley

It's all because Bill Shorten's corrupt Commo Unions have forced their wages up too high forcing Air Services hand, you know just like they did with Holden and Ford.

Human beings are basicly lazy and laziness is the cause of their downfall.

They think . i can get this job and the security that goes with it and then i can just cruise.

This is simply the wrong attitude to life and losing your job is a blessing that may help awaken you from your desire to cruise and live in a durr state.

The small business person never gets to cruise, he never gets to be lazy, he is under constant and relentless evolutionary pressure.

he makes himself strong like granite and he laughs at this pressure.

the "employee" is weak like sand.

My kids got a book at school teaching mental tougness
"The story of karen crumble and ruby resilience".

if we are going to teach resilience to school kids, lets teach it to adults.

This is australia.
This is the land of milk and honey.
You should fall to the ground every morning and weep tears of gratitiude.
if you cant make it in australia, then move to south sudan or mali or bangladesh and make it there. You are not a tree.

if you are going to stay, can i ask one thing....no whingeing. just STFU and get on with climbing the ladder.  what a bunch of cry babies the "employed" are.
Go start a business and then you can employ yourself, join a union and whinge about yourself and fire yourself.

Reagan attacked and destroyed the ATC union in the US - an interesting side effect was there were more crashes.....

These people are fools if they think that incurring the cost of running a safe system outweighs the cost of paying for crashes.... in many ways including the loss of public faith.....

Might as well fly Air Faroffistan with their antiquated Tu-23s or whatever.... pilots chew a lot of gum and carry a roll of wire - just for instant maintenance.... I understand The Faraway Islands have an excellent service to the continent......
