I think they're on shaky ground with that one.

I've known for about 30 years that smoking has two proven benefits.

It reduces the incidence of Alzheimer's, and it prevents tooth decay.

I'm very surprised this latest finding has been allowed to be published, as the campaign to stop people smoking has long since become a matter of Socialist control of the public's behaviour rather than just simply a matter of health.

Socialists LOVE to tell people how to live their lives.

The day will arrive when cafes and restaurants will no longer be allowed to have sugar and salt available for the customers.

Smoking carriages were banned in the railways system - a clear indication that the Socialists don't care that people who use those carriages are quite happy to do so.

No dogs on the beaches is another one. Again, the Socialist Nanny State wanting to increase its control over people's lives.

There's no smoking at all in Sydney's Martin Place now, and the plan is to slowly expand this ban to the neighbouring streets - just for starters.

Pub gardens - no more smoking there despite everyone being happy to smoke there.

I smoked two-packs a day and was also a 'passive smoker' to all those who smoked around me. Where's my cancer?

That's not to say there aren't Smoking Rooms on these cruise liners.

There shouldn't be.

Why? Are you one of those horrible ex-smokers?  Afraid to see people smoke or smell it because YOU might get the urge, again?

I am an ex-smoker and I have no problem with people who still smoke.  It definitely does NOT bother me. I do NOT wag my finger at smokers who seem to congregate in bunches.  It is THEIR lives, not mine.

Exactly.

Ask anyone who fought in WWII what their greatest 'comfort' and pleasure was ... smoking.

The idiots who run our jails have now banned smoking in them. Consequence? Violence has gone through the roof.

I remember when councils banned smoking on the beaches because the stubs were environmentally polluting. Glass and plastic bottles on the beach? No problem.

Socialism gone mad for power over people's lives.

If you've got the gene for cancer - then you'll die of cancer regardless of whether you smoke or not. The carcinogens being pumped out into the air we breathe by car exhausts, factory chimneys, and natural Radon in the soil is quite sufficient without smoking cigarettes to get your cells dividing and multiplying with no stop to it.
