its nature... and they kill for food....like we kill for food..

its the pleasure bit I dont get...why kill something that is doling what it is meant to do....

if sharks or croc... or lions for that matter killed humans and walked away from them...I could understand our need to get revenge..

as it is they dont do that......

We get pleasure from the things that come naturally to us. Otherwise we would develop an aversion to survival. All intelligent social predators display the same behaviour as us - including hunting and killing just for fun and even leaving all or most of the meat behind.

I disagree....they feast first..... we are the only animal that kills for pleasure.......photo ops.. and  ornaments.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes.. what other animal has trophies like that?..
There are a few other animals that play with their prey before killing it. And they don't always eat it either. Cats, dolphins, killer whales and some other species do this.

Primates also. I expect anything that passes for an "intelligent, social predator" does this. You might have to add warm blooded, but I wouldn't class any of the cold blooded predators as particularly intelligent. The cold blooded animals tend to have a strategy of spending as little energy as possible.

from Gordy's link:

Surplus killing, also known as excessive killing and henhouse syndrome,[1][2] is a common behavior exhibited by predators, in which they kill more prey than they can immediately eat and then cache or abandon the remainder. The term was invented by Dutch biologist Hans Kruuk after studying spotted hyenas in Africa[3] and red foxes in England.[4] Surplus killing has been observed among zooplankton, damselfly naiads, predaceous mites, martens, weasels, honey badgers, wolves, orcas, red foxes, leopards, lions, spotted hyenas, spiders, brown[5] and black and polar bears, coyotes, lynx, mink, raccoons, dogs, house cats,[6] and humans.[7][8]

I think you are stretching it a bit when we are talling about humans hunting down a croc or shark that has had a nibble on a human...

what about snakes... do we hunt them down..they also kill humans..

havent heard of a badger attack in ages though.

I never understood how people got their kicks watching things die horribly.

It's the same as watching a good action movie. It arouses the primal instincts that we tend to suppress these days. It gives us a better feel for who we really are.

The psychology behind the ghoulish gawking is the subliminal satisfaction we feel in knowing we ourselves are safe from these painful and fatal episodes that are being acted out in front of us.

At a bloody car accident, the Chinese will gather in a huge crowd from all around and laugh themselves sick. The laughing is from the relief they feel at not being one of the victims. By common agreement the majority feel it's okay to express themselves honestly at these occasional hilarious 'events'. Politeness and consideration for the victims is a Western cultural construct that they need not bother themselves with.

The bullfights have the same psychology behind them. It's not to identify with the primal aggression of the matador's 'hunting instinct', but to wait in hopeful anticipation that the matador will get gored and mutilated by the bull.

Speed-car racing. It's accidents that keep bringing the paying spectators back again.

That's good thinking on their part.

I do the same with my chicken wings, only I speed up the 'loose flesh' condition by deep frying them and then simmering them in 50 / 50 water and soya sauce with a couple of star aniseeds.

I don't have time to let my chicken wings rot on the side of a river bank, otherwise I would.

Cool

Don't go judging people by your own twisted standards, Ian.

defending your white knight against my twisted standards . Cute. maybe you should try the threads where he is salivating about "yellow cock" or the one where he discusses sex with 12 year olds. Or any of the numerous threads where he implies anyone he doesnt agree with is a pedophile or homosexual. Got to uphold those standards, eh mothra.

Your twisted standards that imply a woman can't post online without it somehow being implied she is all about male attention.

It's not the first time you've obsessed about my sexulity.

Your twisted standards.

No idea at all?

Why would you ask me a question you knew nothing about?

Did you want me to educate you?

I've actually met a lot of the meat is murder crowd,  I'm curious if you're one of them.  Simple question.

First we need to establish what you mean by "morally superior". We haven't established that.

Personally I think you mean 'ethical superiority'.  A much more interesting  conversation anyway.

What are your thoughts on vegetarians/vegans who claim moral/ethical superiority over omnivores?

In what respect do they claim they have moral or ethical superiority?

What argument are you referring to? There are so many.

We went on one of the 'croc spotting' tours on the daintree river.

Notice how little effort the croc puts in on this attack.

The footage doesn't match the title of the video.

No Warthog ... just a wild pig.

And obviously the pigs were looking for a feed from the people in the boat.

So they deliberately got that pig killed by the croc.

Bottom line ...both women were idiots .... crocs have been making a comeback down the QLD coast since 1974 when they became protected....

there have been enough fatal attacks starting with Beryl Wruck in the Daintree in 1985.

http://www.amazingaustralia.com.au/animals/crocodile_attacks.htm

They have re-established down as far south as the Mary River near Maryborough/Hervey Bay & Fraser Island.

Look out Brisbane/Moreton Bay you're next.

There are far too many now in QLD ... they have ruined a lot of tourism potential for our beautiful beach locations.

and I believe that they should be culled from south of the Daintree.

Oh anyone thinking it's safe to ever swim at Port Douglas no matter what the weather ... has rocks in the head.

You don't even go trying to fetch you golf balls from the water hazards at the Mirage Resort Golf course.

I trust you speak only for yourself fd......

I personally am always on the animals side....the poor loves can smell us and they fear us....

we should be ashamed of ourselves.

But who do you go for when it's lion vs gazelle?

The gazelle, of course.

it's prettier
