Labor thumped in Brisbane LGA election
Mar 21st, 2016 at 8:18am

Heard on the radio news this morning: Over the weekend, in Brisbane the Coalition has been returned with an increased majority in a thumping rebuke to the QLD Labor government. Labor had been expected to take over Brisbane for the first time in 13 years but instead suffered a heavy defeat in Australia's biggest local government area. This can only be seen as an attack on the incompetent QLD Labor government. A referendum on four-year terms seems certain to be successful, with just over 50% of voters in favour of it. Yes, it works in NSW but we have an Upper and Lower House. Whether it would work in QLD remains to be seen.

BRISBANE could end up with its first Greens councillor, a former performance poet who says residents should be able to paint yellow lines in their street if the council ignores their request.

A local government election?  Not a STATE or FEDERAL election, but a LOCAL government one.  So a silvertail gets elected as a councillor and this is a rebuke to a STATE government?  Well, I suppose any victory no matter how small is a victory.    I know he is a green but, how many LNP are left up there anyway?   I doubt if they could even fit in Labor's old Tarago, same as the LNP here in victoria - they are using an old minivan they rent on a weekly basis - such is the support they have from the masses.

I hope he gets to Lord Mayor and they give him a credit card like they did to failed Liberal Leader , now Melbourne Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle.  He only run up over 25K in kid's school fees, nosh ups, and rides in the local Merc.

OK so just a few thousand people decides whether there's going to be a permanent change to the length of parliamentary terms. How can that be democratic ?
