Poll Shows Labor Surge In WA

We want Mark: poll shows Labor surge   Smiley
March 19 2016
WA Today
Support for the WA Labor opposition is higher than that for the government, a poll shows.

And 61 per cent of those polled would prefer Labor Leader Mark McGowan as premier, compared to Premier Colin Barnett's 39 per cent.

Public support for opposition leader Mark McGowan has skyrocketed.

The ReachTEL poll questioned 1248 voters across the state on Thursday night, and showed that Labor would smash the government if an election were to be held soon, the opposition leading by 12 points on a two-party preferred basis, The Weekend West reports.   Smiley

The 56 per cent of the 1248 people questioned said they would vote for Labor compared to 44 per cent who supported the government.
Only 39 per cent of those polled preferred Colin Barnett as Premier.

Modelling shows that if the sentiment of those who participated in the poll were replicated in an election, Labor would not only win the 10 seats needed to defeat the conservative alliance in power, but would take an additional 11, The Weekend West says.

Public support for opposition leader Mark McGowan was also confirmed, days after he survived an attempt by former federal minister Stephen Smith to mimic Queensland's Campbell Newman and challenge for the WA Labor Party leadership without holding a seat in state parliament.

Mr Smith's move was shut down not long after it was made public, Labor issuing a statement saying its shadow cabinet unanimously supported Mark McGowan and his challenger should withdraw.

hopefully Barnett will try to buy my vote and give me a bit more than the 1.5 percent pay rise he has allegedly capped. I deserve it.

Just to give you an idea of what this means:

Current Parliament (total 59): Liberal 31, WA Nationals 7, Labor 21.
Current Parliament (2PP): Lib/WA Nats: 57%, Labor 43%.

The poll is suggesting that Labor would record a swing of more than 13% and double its seats to 42 seats out of 59. The Liberals and WA Nationals would be left with 17 seats between them.

Aw, you spoil my fun ...

If Labor did end up with 42 seats out of 59, it will be their largest ever election win in WA, both in number of seats and by percentage,. It would beat a record that has stood for more than a century.

So the fact that the Liberals have cut your pay in real terms isn't enough of a reason on its own to vote against them?  Huh
