Western Australia has returned to the top spot in a key global survey of attractive mining investment destinations, after slipping down the ranking in 2014.

Canadian think-tank the Fraser Institute conducts the survey each year and found WA was the most attractive jurisdiction in the world for investing in 2015, after falling to fourth in 2014.

Saskatchewan in Canada came in at second spot while the US state of Nevada slipped to third.

The independent research group surveyed around 4,000 mining companies to gauge their views on the most attractive investment destinations.

The companies were asked to rate each jurisdiction based on geological endowment, government policies, time taken to get approvals, security, sovereign risk, and attitude towards exploration investment.

WA's Minister for Mines and Petroleum Bill Marmion said the rating was a welcome surprise, adding the State Government had worked to significantly reduce the time to get a mine into production.Western Australia has returned to the top spot in a key global survey of attractive mining investment destinations, after slipping down the ranking in 2014.

WA's Minister for Mines and Petroleum Bill Marmion said the rating was a welcome surprise, adding the State Government had worked to significantly reduce the time to get a mine into production.  Smiley

"In the last year the mine rehabilitation funds [have] come through, we've maintained our exploration incentive scheme and we've been investing in the Minerals Research Institute of WA," he said.

"One of the other things that I think is a real tangible benefit is they've actually seen on the ground, mining exploration turning into mining production."

Mr Marmion cited the short time it took to get the Nova nickel mine from discovery to production as a positive story from the sector.

"We've been working very hard, getting rid of red tape through the approvals process, that's in both my department and also in Aboriginal heritage," he said.

"Mining companies are doing it tough but regardless of that mining companies throughout the world have still ranked Western Australia in these tougher times the best place to invest your money."

......WA is more attractive now that the mining and carbon taxes are history  Smiley

.................unless the Anti-mining Labor Party (ALP) sleazes back in I suppose  Sad

Wow, an attractive investment spot... when does the actual investment begin and the jobs flow endlessly like a river of nectar?

What lessons will have been learned?  That buying expensive houses on mining sites is a foredoomed failure and future ghost town?  That goverments need to rein in their spending from royalties and put it to good use instead of finding ever more ways to waste money?  That  tighter eye needs to be kept on offshore investors?  That local investment should be sought first instead of the dead loss of offshore investors with all their in-house' loans etc deductions?  Are Australians so dumb they need Chindians to do all the investment etc and thus reap the reward, while taking the profits offshore (again)?

Hmmm... well best of luck.  I hope all the libs are going to put money into investing in WA then.  The much needed investment will no doubt give back large returns, much like investing in fossil fuels and manufacturing in Australia.

No sarcasm intended - because if sadly it's proven false and libs take heavy losses, they will simply transfer that loss to the taxpayers/public.

Anything on the renewables that have gone bankrupt? The ones that could survive without subsidies, as opposed to evil fossil fuels.

Interesting.  When the WA Labor Government left power, they handed the Libs a growing economy and a small surplus.   The Libs steered the train well off the tracks and it has been going downhill ever since - and now it is 'back on track"   Wow well done Libs!   You take a booming state economy, turn it to crap, convince Joe Hockey to adopt a labor idea to give you more GST money back, and now you are back on the road to success.  What a great effort!

Don't spend it all on "Buswell" branded chairs will you

Swag must be getting desperate for good news if he has to rely on a survey based on speculation.
