Climate Collapse Driving Species Polewards
Feb 9th, 2016 at 4:44pm

Climate change driving species to the Earth's poles faster than predicted, scientists say

Warming temperatures are pushing land and sea creatures closer to the north and south poles and to cooler altitudes at rates faster than first predicted, scientists say.

Scientists from 40 countries are gathering in Hobart for a four-day conference about how climate change is forcing species to move, including humans.

Professor Camille Parmesan from Plymouth University in the UK said around the world animals and plants were moving towards the Earth's poles, and it is happening faster than scientists had originally predicted.

"For the species that we have really good data on where they've lived historically over the past 100 years, we're seeing about half of those have actually moved where they live, which is an astonishing number given we've only had one degree centigrade warming," she said.

The East Australian Current has moved 350 kilometres further south in the past 60 years.

Tasmania's east coast is a global hotspot for marine species that are moving south.

One of them is the long-spined sea urchin.

Associate Professor Gretta Pecl from the University of Tasmania's Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies said the species was becoming a pest.

She is so funny.

Camiile and the Edith's checkerspot butterfly, hahaha

Studied the butterflies saw some had moved up the mountain. Apparently didn't realise the area had been logged. The grasses moved up the mountain because they could get sun. The butterflies followed. According to her that was proof of AGW and the butterflies need to migrate.

The trees grew back. The grasses died out. The butterflies moved down the mountain again.

Of course you would.

How many times have you given up milk, bacon, eggs, etc., because, at various times, they have been deemed (in 'studies'), as bad for your health?

One imagines that these studies have been extant for less time than the GW farce.

The real answer to global warming is to reduce the world's population by 80%.

'But recent logging near their natural habitat changed all that. Not only did logging open the forest floor to more sunlight, it also exposed deeper soils that had been enriched from the logging debris and burn-piles. That human disturbance created the just-right conditions for the annual Collinsia to survive for much longer periods. Serendipitously it also created a novel butterfly-plant synchrony. A longer-lived and more abundant Collinsia could now sustain the full development of hungry caterpillars.'

'Jim was the Director and an instructor at the Sierra Nevada Field Campus from 1985 to 2009. His enthusiasm for natural history and ecology has led to an extensive knowledge of the plant and animal life in the Sierra Buttes and Yuba Pass area of the Sierra Nevada. He believes that every class should be highly informative, somewhat rigorous and fun.'

how can the real answer to global warming be to reduce global population when the bulk of emissions have come from the least populated cities

Funny that

'Mapping urban heat islands of arctic cities using combined data on field measurements and satellite images based on the example of the city of Apatity (Murmansk Oblast)'

http://link.springer.com/article/10.1134%2FS000143381509011X#/page-1

'The experimental data on air temperature were obtained as a result of expeditionary meteorological observations, and the experimental data on surface temperature were obtained based on the data of the space hyperspectral Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) system, channels 31 and 32 (10.78–11.28 and 11.77–12.27 micrometers, respectively). As a result of the analysis of temperature fields, an intensive heat island (up to 3.2°C) has been identified that was estimated based on the underlying surface temperature, and its mean intensity over the observation period significantly exceeds the representative data for European cities in winter.'

UHIE as a function humans warming their homes. Because the Sun ain't shining in winter.

Now you know why GISS shows that lovely red in the Arctic.

So??

What was the 'news' 100,000 years ago when sea levels rose and made Australia an island and separated Siberia from Alaska???

You guys are insane.
