Swag...the business would have still made a profit even with penalty rates - but chose  to not open.  As it says in the article.

The same as usual: complete bullshit.

As soon as he hears the words 'penalty rates', he starts salivating.

In this case he couldn't have been further from the truth.

The restaurant closed for one day.

The workers were paid to stay home.

Nobody lost their job.

They returned to work the next day.

The employees (or some casuals) would have still made an extra day's wage if they worked without penalty rates....

Lower wages for all so the business makes even more profit - wven when they already are.

Twisted logic.  Advocating low wages because its good for business. So would lowering prices to stimulate consumer demand. Or reducing property prices or water/electricity. Or no Gst increase.

But in any case not like the arguments for and against penalty rates havent been said by people like me or Swag.

The left will be happy with this.
They like to see businesses fail.

The business isn't failing.

They had the opportunity to make a $200 profit, and turned it down.

So, they closed on one day.

Imprecise. They had an opportunity to make what they claimed would have been a $200 profit and turned it down. How do we know that they wouldn't have made more?

It's zero sum.

A day's trade lost.  Two actually, as the workers got paid for doing effall.

Multiply that out by all the businesses closed for the day because of excessive penalty rates and that adds up to a schitt load of potential work that could have been undertaken by otherwise unemployed individuals having to live off the enslaved tax payer.

Penalty rates cost jobs.....tut tut tut....

It is budgeted for , the public holidays are posted in advance.

Penalty rates cost no jobs, The employer is employing the number of people required for the work.

Giving the employer a greater share of the profit has no impact on employment unless you are talking about in Ferrari sales.

Closed for the day, so the rest of the workers and bosses can go out and have good day and pay for entertainment etc, contributing to the economy.
