congratulations..

you've done yourself out of a job due to your greed.

now blame someone else..  Roll Eyes

in the mean time good luck with your $0 pay cheque.. losers  Grin

You seem very confused on this issue.

Nobody was being greedy (except the restaurant owner: $200 profit wasn't enough for him).

Nobody was demanding that the restaurant open.

The restaurant was only closed for one day - nobody has lost their job.

Penalty rates are not new.

Nobody is asking for penalty rates to be increased.

The restaurant workers will receive their normal pay, and have a day off as a paid public holiday.

Which part are you still struggling with?

I wouldn't have opened for that amount of money either... it wasn't even guaranteed that he'd even get that much..

And nobody is condemning him for not opening.

The workers stayed home and were paid for a public holiday (apart from the casuals, of course).

So, what's your problem again?

at $48 plus an hour for unskill plate lickers the shops aren't opening at all so they GET NO MONEY AT ALL

The only Unskilled here are the owner managers.

With 20+ years in hospitality let me educate you

On Sundays & Public Holidays most "SUCCESSFUL" restaurants/cafe's are run as such:

1) Owners
2) Maitre d'
3) Youngest Waitstaff
4) Head Chef
5) Sous Chef
6) 1st year app

1, 2 & 3 - Front of house

4,5 & 6 - Kitchen

3 & 6 are the ONLY ones on penalty rates.
1 is on profit
2,4 & 5 are on salary

Assuming "Owners" = a couple then the above should be able to comfortably service between 50 & 70 pax per seating.

BTW - The average rate for a Waiter/Waitress is AU$15.38 per hour

1st yr app = $11.07 per hour

If his paying over $48 per hour as he says his paying way above award rates.

The Award rate for a Level 3 Food & Beverage Attendant/Cook/Kitchen Attendant is $47.75 on a Public Holiday.

The rate for a Level 4 (tradesperson) is $50.33

Which is why you don't put a level 3 on, you use salaried staff.

Use apprentices & seeing as he personally singled out uni students

Casual 18 years
Level 1 food and beverage attendant grade 1      $15.56      $15.56 per hour plus $2.01 per hour or part of an hour      $15.56 per hour plus $3.02 per hour or part of an hour      $18.68

This went of course a bit.

To clarify:

Nobody was demanding that the restaurant open.

The restaurant was only closed for one day - nobody has lost their job.

Penalty rates are not new.

Nobody is asking for penalty rates to be increased.

The restaurant workers will receive their normal pay, and have a day off as a paid public holiday.

The fact that the owner admits that he was going to make a profit if he opened, shows that penalty rates are still justified.

Yes?

The Liberal National Party (LNP) is a QUEENSLAND STATE GOVERNMENT PARTY.

The current Federal Government in Canberra is called the COALITION ... and has been since 1923!

Quote:
In Australian politics, the Coalition is a formal alliance of broadly centre-right parties, which has existed in various forms since 1923.

The partners in the alliance are the Liberal Party (LPA), the National Party (formerly the Country Party and the National Country Party), the Country Liberal Party (CLP), and the Liberal National Party (LNP). Notable previous partners were the Nationalist Party and the United Australia Party, both predecessors of the current Liberal Party.

IF I see somebody/anybody referring to the current Federal Government, AGAIN, as the LNP, instead of the COALITION,  I will use voodoo to make you cease and desist.  Cool

So he chose not to open,,his right!!

END OF STORY   Wink Wink Wink Wink

No, he's now bitching about his choice.

End of story would have been, made choice no news article complaining.

Exactly.

Yesterday, on the restaurant’s front window, was a message to patrons that said: “Parlamento will be closed on Australia Day due to public holiday costs. Kitchenhand/baristas/dishwashers/waiters all on $48 per hour minimum, plus 9% super — on top. Nb ... ‘not complaining. just explaining’. Happy Australia Day.”

What's wrong with “Parlamento will be closed on Australia Day” ?

Sounds like a cheap political stunt to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's a member of the Liberal Party.

It's the business equivalent of striking for better pay. The only difference is, these lockouts are legal.
