you do realise that you are talking about the very penalty rates you are asking to be removed? right?  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

It's really very simple, boss doesn't want to work on a public holiday for crap money, neither do the staff.

You do also realise that I am NOT in fact supporting the removal of penalty rates per se, but rather, inviting a discussion on the actual rate itself and associated conditions.

It's called negotiation and compromise.

The facts are you wouldn't pass the sniff test in any scenario ever unless it was applying for daddys little princess who can say and do how she pleases to whomever and everything is balese forever and ever...  Roll Eyes

No, they didn't.

The default position on Public Holidays is, you stay home from work and you get paid to do so.

Public Holidays are holidays.  If they were work days they would be called Public Work Days.

The permanent staff at that restaurant stayed home, and they were paid to do so.

They gained an extra day off that week, and got the same pay as usual.

Your claim to be an IR advocate loses some credibility when you are apparently unaware that working on a public holiday entitles you to ADDITIONAL income on top of the normal day's pay. If this were not true, no permanent staff anywhere would ever work on a public holiday.

You are the same as Aussie - a fake.

They didn't lose a thing, because working on a Public Holiday is not an automatic right: it is the exception rather than the rule.

Try to keep up, Longy.

Thank you for explaining public holidays to us because I doubt there is a single person here who was unaware of the facts of how they work. Nicely missing the point of course, which is....  tada! They could have had an EXTRA days pay at holiday loading rates and they were denied that because of the decision not to open.

THEY LOST OUT on money.

Maria thinks there is no such thing as supply and demand and thinks money is money. Except, of course, when it comes to the employer and then all of a sudden price-point is a consideration all of a sudden.

Daddy taught her well.

Since we are negotiation what do you feel would be a reasonable increase to penalty rates for night shifts ?

5% or 10% ?

When i go to a restaurant on a weekend often I pay a higher price (they present a "weekend" menu with different prices) to reflect different demands and costs of the weekends.  I want to be able to meet up with friends at a convenient time (weekend when they are available) compared to just a lunch to fill myself up (during the week)?  Then that convenient time (and venue) is worth something extra.

Even if casuals didn't get to work on this public holiday at this restaurant, that's fine.  Because the trade off is that they will have to work longer hours for the same amount of pay if penalty rates were removed when they work on the weekends.  Long-term wise, casuals are far better off.

I dare the libs to make removing penalty rates as an election promise since they believe in it so much.  It will exile them to the backbench for decade.

A whole $200???  Wow, A veritable Kings Ransom and less than the average daily wage.

The employees being talked about are on $20 an hour or $160 an 8 hr shift ?

$200 would look ok to them ?

If you were capable of a decent, credible discussion on rates that would be good. But let's be honest... Well at least I can be. You have shown a high propensity for dishonesty.

Indeed.

Longy is good at avoiding difficult questions, too.

Still waiting on a reply to this:

"Has this restaurant ever opened on a Public Holiday before?"
