People I guess don't need  fear of an afterlife to make them do the right thing anymore.

I'm not sure thats right.
i find buddhists and christians far less "fearful" then secular people.
You need a direction in life and you need a "personal philosophy"
It doesnt probably matter in the long run which direction you take, but if you dont take a direction you are well and truly farrked.
And it seems to my observations that many many aetheists would do very well to submit to a "force" greater then themselves.
Their ego's wont like this.
Their ego thinks they will cease to exist if they do.
Paradoxically though, the opposite is true.

If people think they can find peace and happiness in the secular world of "ego", i will wish them good luck. They are going to need it Wink

Fearful of what exactly, an afterlife? How can I as an atheist be fearful of something I think doesnt exist.

Oh, wait, I'm fearful of unicorns.

Fearful of life.
i find many aetheists have a very negative neurotic mindset (the ego loves negative neurosis as it strengthens its importance)
i find many aetheists have very serious "limiting beliefs' and "success barriers"
They lack that bravery and dynamism  that comes with the very real "self belief' that people with a strong personal philosophy have

Other smart and inspired philosophers I guess.

religious people , at least, are getting "some" input.

How many beaten down chodes in england , would go home from work and pull out some

Kant, schopenhauer, heidigger, decartes or aristotle??.

i think they'd be more likely to fire up the premier league.

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

Perhaps.

This news, however, shows that there is hope for the future.

Perhaps you would care to show us the shining example of the athiest state you long for.  Last I heard that included such utopian regimes such as China and USSR and let's not forget the Marxists states of... anywhere.

IN contrast, the richest, most free and most democratic countries are all Christian.

I think the examples you listed had atheism as inconsequential to the reasons they sucked so bad.

I remember years ago reading a cancer ward sister saying the religious ones were resentful and bitter towards the deity for their terminal condition because of having been good Christians all their life - with church attendance and 'worshipping' etc etc. - and went a lot harder than the non-religious ones.

Grin Grin Grin

... and that's PRECISELY because after various civil wars the governments became divorced from the Power of the Church and it's constant meddling.

Divorce
Abortions
Homosexuality
Births out of wedlock
Compulsory church attendance for children
No sports on Sundays
No shops open on Sundays

etc etc ... The Churches ran the agenda.

Thank god secular agnosticism managed to slowly prise power out of the hands of the church leaders.

I'm sure it's just coincidental, but two of the most rotten characters that I ever knew personally - were full of pious religiosity.

I never mentioned anything about an atheist state.

Moreover, China and USSR are completely irrelevant.

Go back to maths.

Surfers Paradise is tatty and over rated. I've seen stacks of beach towns better than the Gold Coast. The town strip is a shocker, ratty looking tourist traps.

The atmosphere of the place is decidedly down market. All it is, is a bunch of high rises on the water with a crappy Casino thrown in.
