It's amazing, with all this amazing production exponentially growing, our rights and working hours are going back to the 19th century.
Keynes predicted we would be working 13 hours a week by now, honestly that's possible, you can match the production of someone in 1950 in less than one working day today, you can match the production of someone a decade ago in 30 hours, why should workers work more hours for less? What argument of progress is that? Oh wait, because it's not the workers getting more greedy, it's the Capitalists.

That's why everyone likes Fridays so much ... that's the day of the week when workers actually earn money for themselves. Monday and Tuesday, it's tax money for the governments, Wednesday and Thursday workers are earning money for the company.

Repeating Hockey's rubbish it seems like.

If majority of the voters are at 30% tax margin (note the average tax is less that 30% as it is tiered) then really it is less than 2 days.  And what's the problem with paying tax?  Tax helps pays for essentials such as defence.  People shouldn't pay tax??

So pathetic that people are aversed to paying any tax.

You're forgetting a raft of other taxes that are paid with after-tax income with GST being the biggest impost. Add them all up and it's about 40%.

The point though is not that taxes are being paid, but that the value that employers take from the workers is comparable to the tax that the workers pay. In fact it's often more. The average worker could earn enough in a 20-hour week to meet their needs but they must work for longer because the company is skimming 50% of the value of the workers' labour for the company's owners.

where do you get this drivel? out of your nappy?   when 20% of businesses are LOSING money at any one time how are they 'skimming'.

you still hate business owners dont you.  but that's ok. feelings mutual.

cue whine and run to moderator....

Looks like your maria sock got banned. Diddums. Get over it.

I will never understand people like Swag who want workers to live absolutely poo lives while inequality skyrockets and cut all the gains of the 20th century because it's the "workers who are entitled' in a world where if you are born into capital, it's basically impossible to fail. Trump is the perfect example, terrible businessman who has mismanaged all his companies even though he was easy mode (Casinos and Property development) and would have actually made more money if he just dumped his daddies money into a S&P 500 and is now going on to likely be the president of the United States not on any merit but because he's rich and spouts stupid populist fascist poo. I'm sure Aqua loves Trump as well.

People like Swag won't be happy until working conditions are equal to that of some third world country and he can pretend he's living the Randian dream.

You can have your 13hr/week if you want. But you have to live in a 1950s type environment. 3BR house, .5 car per family, little electronic technology and a very sparse range of foods.  no aircon, no computers an certainly no internet.

I don't have aircon or heating, I love chops and 3 veg, could easily do with 1 car, for eg the SS Dunnydore has done about 12,000km since 2006. It's not really needed but is great for driving to Brissy or the Goldcoast, we use a little Subi B4 as a runaround but it's quite a capable machine on the highway too, just not as comfy.  My computer was bought by the school I worked for until last Chrissy. I do not have a mobile phone.

Now to find a job that only requires me for 13 hours a week.

As someone who has worked in commercial positions for quite some time, I am steadfast against penalty rates.
Someone who works on a contract that has Sunday as part of their 5 day schedule should not be paid anymore for that day.

They should be compensated through the 2 days leave earned elsewhere in the week.

That is how we operate in many countries.

And....what that got to do with employees not under contracts of the kind you enjoy, Mr Hicks?  You know, those people who are effected by changes to penalty rates?

Well thats not how we operate here , the Libs are welcome to try it on a second time after its  success in 07, but we both know that would be political suicide .

That might be fine for bigger companies, remember contracting is not working for wages. If you sign a contract to do that then you must fulfil your contract. PAYE wage earners contract(if you like) is that they are paid penalty rates for unsociable hours. If you thought that the remuneration offered did not compensate you for the strange hours, you would not sign it.

you're on a salary .... your salary has the penalty rates built into it. And at a much higher rate than your company pays penalty rates to all those on the lower rungs of the ladder too. Cheesy Cheesy

You may call it "lame" but it's spot on. Everyone knows that "maria" is your sockpuppet. It took less than three weeks to figure it out. You can keep denying it, but such denials only have value as comedy.

I would love to see people like Andrei lead by example and take a deep pay cut to remove the built-in penalty rates from their own salaries. What are the chances that any of them do this? Buckley's.
