Taken years to get some of the soil here up to scratch - it's a sort of alluvial deposit - the grey stuff left on the bottom of a lake or whatever this used to be, and it sets like cement. Years of applying compost and ash are yielding results... don;t use commercial fertilisers but might have to for my citrus - getting leaf mould.. spraying helps but they need to be fortified to keep up.

Toss your ash into a compost heap, see if you can get some manure or whatever, and mix it up occasionally - lay soil/manure/ash/composting material and mix..... eventually you get good stuff..

Oh - snakes love to hibernate in it since it generates warmth. Don't kill them if you find them.

I transplanted some of the tomatoes that had come from the compost heap into the raised garden. now must remember water and fertiliser . those are my weak points

we have had a horrible day in ACT awful winds with icy rain attached... pretty cold and nasty I opened the door for the cat who was sitting there in her usual fashion.....and she took off in the other direction.. think shes now all set up on grandsons bed..

when I feel they really do HAVE to go outside I have to carry them out kicking and screaming....

no wonder everything I wear is shredded
