Illegal Pig Hunters In National Park
Jun 25th, 2015 at 9:41pm

Illegal pig hunters have been captured on camera cutting locks to gain access to remote parts of the ACT's Namadgi National Park.

Earlier this month in the early hours of Saturday June 13, security cameras near Corin Forest, about an hour south-west of Canberra, captured footage of a group of men cutting locks to gain access to the park.

In another incident, a motion-triggered wildlife monitoring camera recorded a green sedan inside the park, with dogs poised on the bonnet.

These intruders were captured on camera on Mount Franklin Road, at about 8:20am on Saturday May 23.

The owner of the sedan had covered the vehicle's number plates.

Brett McNamara from ACT Parks and Conservation said the hunters had caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to locks and gates over the last month.

He said pig hunting in the park was not only illegal, but dangerous.

"It really is a blood sport," he said.

"It's not really an activity whereby hunters are looking to control or eliminate numbers.

"In fact if anything, it's one about continuing a sport."

Rangers are working with ACT Policing to find the people responsible.

Why are there no pics of people with guns or dead pigs perhaps they are green supporters tending their dope plants.

There are an estimated 23 million feral pigs in Australia, to claim hunters are contributing to this feral pig  problem is absurd.

Is hunting legal in the ACT's National Parks, Baron?

Would you describe these people as "law abiding gun owners"?   Roll Eyes

Someone said we could not judge a person's Aboriginality on their skin colour.  Why isn't that applied in the matter of Pascoe?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Not sure about the ACT,hunting is legal in NSW national parks if the person has a Category R Game license.

Where is the evidence firearms were involved in this, why are you trying to demonise law abiding firearm owners without a shred of evidence?

The article mentions with dogs poised on the bonnet, perhaps they were pig doggers who use dogs to locate pigs before stabbing them in the heart with a knife.
As the dpi link shows hunting can be done with bows, dogs, firearms and black powder firearms.
Pig doggers don't use firearms they use a knife to kill the pigs-

I prefer to shoot them it results in a much quicker death-

Where is the evidence they were using firearms, there are no pics of guns or dead pigs the article mentions dogs(plural) poised on bonnet which indicates pig doggers, the DPI link says hunting can be done with dogs, bows and firearms.

law abiding hunters are easy to spot on public land, they will be wearing bright orange clothing which is the government dictating how they can dress, they will have a gps so no excuse for being where they shouldn't be.
