Newman's tactics are curious - why call an election and then hide?

if you actually read the article you will see that no one is hiding.  it is an election with no policies or promises and little to say.

Called at Christmas / New Year when nobody is watching or cares obviously meant to avoid the maximum scrutiny possible and to get under the guard of the voters.

Obviously a dishonest and tricky move of a government with plenty to hide and desperate to not be accountable for their term in office.

since when did an incumbent not decide on an election date specifically to maximise their own party's chances??

Yes but how often does that entail a Christmas holiday period in order to avoid the voting public and to minimise peoples awareness or to minimise their record in government.

He called an election with the entire campaign in JANUARY. How many people were still on their annual holiday when it was called?

Queensland has NEVER had a January election, and for good reason.
