Just lay down a heap of old newspapers, water them well ... then layer pea straw, compost and chook poo on top. In no time at all you will have delicious and really healthy soil.

Let's get back on topic, hey ~ so you can tell us more about that prolific high up the hill backward sloping block, (must be a real biatch of a thing to mow while you are wearing the thongs you told us about) all of the poor gardens being under water, and those photos.

OK, i'll start.

I prefer growing vegies and herbs to ornamental fowers but i'm a sucker for roses and freesias.

Like i already said, i'm big on permaculture so my yields are usually pretty decent.

I've not been out in the garden for a while now though ... been so busy and haven't had time to put the winter veggies in .. but it's just an excuse to go hang out at the local farmers market ... lol.

Anyway, back to gardening.

It's really good to grow comfrey around the edges of your garden beds. It grows a really solid root base that keeps out weeds and encroaching grass.

IT's also a wonderful herb. Great for bruises and broken bones even. EIn the old herbals they call it 'knitbone' because it speeds up the generation of osteoblasts.

Good for minor wounds too ... just not wounds that need to heal by granulation. It can cause the top layer to heal faster than the underneath and cause abscesses.
