Ban beards to control Muslims
Aug 9th, 2014 at 2:24pm

Let's do what China has done.

Ban beards.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/06/chinese-city-bans-islamic-beards-he...

Quote:
Chinese city bans Islamic beards, headwear and clothing on buses

Uighur people in Karamay appear to be the target of restrictions as unrest simmers in mainly Muslim Xinjiang region.

The ban also covered “large beards”, the paper said, adding:

“Those who do not co-operate with inspection teams will be handled by police.”

This is deeply sinnister Bobby, and no laughing matter.

Quote:
A city in China’s mainly Muslim Xinjiang region has banned people with large beards or Islamic clothing from travelling on public buses, state media said, prompting outrage from an overseas rights group.

Authorities in Karamay banned people wearing hijabs, niqabs, burqas or clothing with the Islamic star and crescent symbol from taking local buses, the Karamay Daily reported.

FD will be along in no time at all to condemn this egregious attack on personal freedoms.  Tongue

Bobby, do you think what the Chinese authorities are doing will really solve the problems in Xinjiang Province or do you think it will exacerbate them by increasing resent and feelings of being oppressed by Beijing?  Roll Eyes

The Chinese don't muck around.

They will fix the Muslim problem up easily.

No no, I think you’ll find that banning beards is Freeedom.

That, and answering FD’s questions in the correct Abu manner. I.e, compliance with FD’s fears, fantasies and hysterical tabloid caricatures.

Allah uakbar, no?

I'm with Brian and Gnadalf on this one. This is just like the French banning the letterbox outfit.

At least there is a legitimate security argument in favour of the French (and Belgian) bans - ie the burqa can be used to conceal identity. But banning beards and hijabs and clothing with islamic symbols takes it to a whole new level.

A fake beard and sunnies do a good job of concealing a person's identity. As do face masks - which are of course not banned in France.

face masks are banned FD - the French and Belgian burqa bans are not specific to the burqa - but any full face covering:

Quote:
The French ban on face covering (French: Loi interdisant la dissimulation du visage dans l'espace public, "Act prohibiting concealment of the face in public space") is an act of parliament passed by the Senate of France on 14 September 2010, resulting in the ban on the wearing of face-covering headgear, including masks, helmets, balaclava, niqābs and other veils covering the face in public places, except under specified circumstances.[1] The ban also applies to the burqa, a full-body covering, if it covers the face. The bill had previously been passed by the National Assembly of France on 13 July 2010.[2]

The key argument supporting this proposal is that face-coverings prevent the clear identification of a person, which is both a security risk, and a social hindrance within a society which relies on facial recognition and expression in communication.
