It's a matter of personal choice, but it should be kept totally as a personal thing and not pushed on others.

Just like Atheism...

Well atheism isn't a belief system. It's a lack of a belief in a god/s. A (without), theism (belief in the existence of a god or gods).

Now there are some movements like new atheism, and some groups of anti-theists that have specific values of course, some of them like the anti-theist do advocate getting rid of religion altogether.

Doesn't stop them from shoving Atheism down the throats of others though does it...

Really? Who is them? I have never seen a government trying to shove atheism down the kiddies throats but I have seen them try to shove bible bashing down the kiddies gobs, not to mention the kiddy fiddlers that represent the church. Roll Eyes

Atheists Skippy I was talking about Atheists...  lots of them like shoving it down peoples throats just like the God botherers do.

They come knocking on your door on Sunday mornings, do they?

The bible is a nonsense. Most of the OT was written as a propaganda tract when the Assyrians were besieging Jerusalem having conquered the rest of Israel. The OT was written 2 generations after the events it supposedly chronicles.

And is self contradictory. And full of hate.

Yes, do unto others as you would have them do unto you and turn the other cheek, etc...  are truly hateful teachings, Tanya.

“[…] You probably think the Inquisition was a perversion of the ‘true’ spirit of Christianity. Perhaps it was. The problem, however, is that the teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. You are, of course, free to interpret the Bible differently—though isn’t it amazing that you have succeeded in discerning the true teachings of Christianity, while the most influential thinkers in the history of your faith failed?”

—  Sam Harris, Letter to a Christian Nation (2006)

Honestly....  PERHAPS IT WAS???????
I wouldn't bother putting this guy or his thoughts forth if he's not sure about something that is patently true.

“With regard to Popper’s insistence on continuing to search, surely enough is enough. My years of mental turmoil before managing to rid myself of childhood theistic indoctrination entailed sufficient search – through thinking, reading, listening and debating – to last me for life. We are not expected to keep a lifelong open mind on such hypotheses as the existence of Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, so why should an exception be made in the case of God? That hypothesis, like those other stories for children, is merely asserted, without due evidence, by dissembling, or deluded, authorities.”

All the proof declares very definitively to anyone who really wants to know the truth that the Bible is a veritable maze of nonsense and contradictions.
