No one in their right mind would see staff as slaves.

I dunno, that bloke who paid his teenage employees had a pretty sweet racket going on until he got busted.

Shonks and scamsters will always exist.
But employers who don't invest and nurture human capital will fail.
And employees who have gwegys attitude of not wanting to be a team player and of trying to cause disruption and animosity will be left out of the loop.

Darwinian workplace development.

Im a supporter of Bob Days philosophy of putting jobs up for auction where the lowest bidder gets the job. This of course should not apply to professionals or politicians   Cheesy

Funny thing is that isn't strictly true. Plenty of employers have bad bosses that screw people over and yet are protected by the company

Look at Walmart in the states.  One of the most disgusting ways to treat staff members, making huge profits while keeping full time hard workers in poverty.

I'm pretty sure they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

I can't say what is generally the case, I'd need to look at the research first, but it definitely happens in some companies for decades.

Yes El Gatto right again, and they wonder why people join unions.  Go figure.     Wink

Most people don't join.
Most people would be better off joining a dynamic, innovative, mover and shaker, small business which is flexible and nimble enough to succeed in these difficult times. And they would, as contibutors, expect to be handsomely rewarded for their contributions.
they would meet with their boss in a spirit of mutual trust and with a goal of working towards a common purpose. they would embrace, love and benefit from "enterpirse bargaining: and all that this marvellous revolutionary approach has to offer.
or they can join a destructive union and see their jobs sent to asia.
Simple choice really. Wink

And then when the crunch comes and they are out on their ear.. they blame the unions for not defending them....

Nothing wrong with enterprise bargaining as long as it remains within the rules and rates....  I work on an agreement.. it works fine - I get paid award rates etc, and can't be paid less.....

So - what could the 'productivity commission' have to look at in terms of 'reviewing' anything?  If not for ways to cut wages and conditions...?  what else would they look for?  New ways of signing an agreement that will not permit lower rates of pay than award?  What colour pen to use?

Waste of public time, angst and money - must be a hidden agenda the government are trying to distract us from...
