Nooo (he says patiently) Rudd 'go hard, go early, go households' would be...

"Giving Bloggies the dole to buy a loaf of bread has an economics benefit. "

It doesn't matter if Bloggies spends the money on bread, ciggies or home isolation it will stimulate the economy with a multiplier effect. Exactly what the multiplier effect is will vary according to a number of factors include the savings rate.

This is you. But the majority will always be needing to look up to some one as it's just part of our human nature.

Eh. Embarrassed Has the discussion been about not looking up to any one. I'm saying if you are going to have heroes make sure they have substance and not all froth and bubble media productions.

What, Tony has substance? How about Gina and Clive? Sure they are 'substantial' but it's more to do with their physical size or the size of their wallets.

I'm also saying these are Poms and don't relate to our values or society. If you are going to have heroes make them worth while and make them Australian.

Grow up Australia, move on Australia.'

Aussie are the most British people outside of Britain itself.

And making them Australian is an option, we can have our own monarchy. It would be the logical progression if the Queen were to crown as her successor here, someone we've nominated. Doing this would give us as a country something truly meaningful, as opposed to the meaninglessness of 'Federation' or anything else that's simply legislated (as a republic would be).

And that' right they are 'born' into the role of public servants, so they can't really be 'blamed' for being what they are can they. And if any thing they fail by not standing up for the public more, Prince Charles being the exception to this as he has been outspoken on some of Britain's problems. But without the royals Britain would go into a irreversible decline.

Eh. Embarrassed. A strange logic and at best these are Pommy justifications for the Royals (and there are Poms who would differ with you and I would probably agree).

Grow up Australia, move on Australia.

There are plenty of "poms" who I disagree with, these are the 'Briticans' that care more about image than they do for their country. The British would be the world's second worse patriots behind the Aussies, because all they care about now is trying to be like the Americans, whereas we are desperately trying to be British again.

They might have got away without them for a period hundreds of years ago, but not if it should ever happen again.

Eh  Embarrassed

Cromwell and his Roundheads overthrew the British monarchy in 1649. And if for any reason the a monarch were ever deposed of again, it would be a setback that was irrecoverable. Once you do these kind of things it's difficult to re-instate them, and even if you do their meaningfulness is diminished.

Which is the whole frigging point. We are Australians because  the pommy bloodsuckers were never part of the Australian society (despite the best efforts of John MacArthur, Marsden and other self centered conservatives).

Australia is Pommyland with Pommy institutions (Law, parliament etc) and Pommy social values (an individuals have equal rights and no corruption please).

And we owe it ALL to liberal* MIDDLE CLASS professional Poms. I'll name a few; Phillip, King, Hunter, Bligh, Macquarie, LaTrobe - and that's only the tip of the iceberg - there is an absolute plethora of great and lesser lights that made Australia Australia WITHOUT the bloodsuckers.

It was not so much by design but Australia is what you get when you take away the bloddsuckers from the Pommy society.

*Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality and NOT in the meaning that been usurped by the Australian Liberal Party (who are actually conservatives.

It seems we both agree on that then,as to Republicanism,I think the UK will have sorted that problem out before we even have to decide. The Queen will be the last in my view.

I haven't tied Republicanism with this Royal Visit. The Royal visit is us bowing and scraping to people who pretend to be our social superiors. It is the polar opposite of 'who we are'. We only behave this way when someone says 'Royal'!!! We are collectively being as ingenuine as they are.

I can see Australia being a Republic but the issue is fraught with legal and constitutional issues. I concede there are advantages to having an apolitical hereditary sovereign which form safeguards that would be hard to replicate with an elected or politically appointed representative (sovereign).
