I just want to say that 12 frigates and a couple of subs is no way to protect an entire continent.

WE need NUCLEAR POWERED, NUCLEAR CAPABLE submarines, like the English vanguards.

Which is why we have close and powerful friends  Wink.

Subs are an important element of our defense but even 12 nukes subs could not protect us absolutely. We need a balanced force and close and powerful friends.

With the coastline we have we need a KickArse navy with carriers and nuclear subs, the LOT!!

Don't settle for second best.

If you want to 'sink them in the moat' you can use land based aircraft, missiles, over the horizon radar and drones just as effectively, if not more so.

And land based defense assets are a lot harder to sink than sea based defense assets  Grin.

(I'm not arguing against a strong Navy but arguing for a balanced force. Wink)

Not if you have the co-ordinates! Its easier to hit a stationary target isn't it?

Land based assets can be mobile and placed in bunkers etc and much more numerous for the same spend.

That's right guys, only the best will do when it comes to kicking the arse of those armor-plated, weaponised gunships those people smugglers are using.

Let's teach 'em - you can only come to Australia by plane!

And then, let's scrap Medicare, build a sh17house NBN, and use that money where it's needed: keeping them varmints out!

Spend big to protect us from the Yellow Menace. I feel like I've been teleported back to 1935 thanks Taipan.

But, hey, why stop there? SA's got loads of uranium. Let's spin those centrifuges (oh sorry, THAT centrifuge) and make us some BIG missiles. That'll make the rest of the world take us seriously.

Especially when one of our best and finest decides to test it on Christmas Island. Merry Christmas, non-white wanna-be Australians? *Sigh*

Obviously that's not what I'm talking about.

Besides we don't need nuclear missiles for ridding ourselves of country shopping parasites; just one torpedo will do. After the word gets out you will never see another 'asylum seeker' boat trying to get to this country. And if I had my way they wouldn't even be allowed to come by plane or any other method they wish to use for their invasion.

But think how much quicker word will get out with a nuke! It just has such pizzazz! Besides, we can't send our leaky Collins Class subs. We're sinking the refugees, not our own subs. Unless we capture them, put them on the subs, and send them out to sea?

New Zealand had the right idea about nukes.

The only thing our Navy appears good at is sticking things up each others' arses!   Grin Grin Grin
