I think there is a thread about our education system, which is probably on par or better than that of the USA and GB, but nowhere near the standards of Japan or China.
Really pansi?
Most Aussies i have come across either here or in Australia have a knowledge of say modern history about he same as i had when i was 12.
In our school curriculum in Britain we covered Napoleon, the crimea war, Russian Revolution, French Revolution, WW1.
Many - my wife included - admit the Aussie education system teaches you two fifths of bugger all on history.
How about languages? I left with French and German taught at school from 11 and 12 respectively.
Few Aussies i met spoke a second, let alone third language - unless they were from migrant families, even then it tended to reach down 2nd gen only.
In my cursory review of the AU education system, I feel fortunate to have been educated in Great Britain.
