Australian breach of Indonesian territorial waters angers Jakarta

Quote:
Jakarta has demanded an immediate halt to asylum-seeker boat turnbacks and announced it will send a navy frigate to bolster its southern defences after Australian ships repeatedly breached Indonesian territorial waters.

In a dramatic escalation of the standoff over border protection, Indonesia drew a line in the sand on Friday, saying it would step up its own maritime patrols in a move that could heighten the risk of confrontation.

”The government of Indonesia has the right to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with international laws and the charter of the United Nations,” said Agus Barnas, the spokesman for the Co-ordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs…………………………
………………………………………………….
Sources told Fairfax Media concerns had been raised that the Operation Sovereign Borders Joint Agency Taskforce – the border protection leadership – was sending the ships to positions too close to the 12-nautical-mile limit to carry out the government’s tough policies.

In some cases, ship commanders even raised questions at the time about whether positions to which they were directed put them at risk of crossing the boundary.

I'm at a bit of a disadvantage here - HOW did these Australian ships 'wander' into Indonesian waters?

I suspect that they were taking people to Indonesia.

People smuggling?

Surely not.

Jakarta has demanded an immediate halt to asylum-seeker boat turnbacks

We, the taxpayers, should be told what the governments response to this request is?

Is Abbott going to stop the turnbacks or not?

Julie Bishop is giving $5 billion to Indonesia as bribe money, maybe that will cover the little mishaps, maybe they will demand more after this latest stuff up.

Yes operation no sovereign boarders is the biggest people smuggling operation any Australian government has ever instigated.

I can't remember a relationship where both side have never offended each other in some way

Under Labor - Australia have been paralysed by the fear of offending Indonesia yet allowing Indonesia to push us around

Its got to be a give and take and Australia under Labor have been taking it up the backside

Well done Abbott for standing up for Aussies

This is coming from a government that blamed Abbott for boats that sank 500 meters from the Indonesian coastline?

If Indonesia is willing to push the boundaries then I say we should do the same

Oh.....okay.  Is it Gillard and Rudd presently bent over taking it both ends with abject apologies being made to Indonesia for what Morrison has described as "very serious' breaches of Indonesia's sovereignty.  Or is it the Navy Boss, Morrison and Bishop?

You are a phuckk wit, and it really pisses me off that I let myself down and respond to your garbage.

Third world unimportant dives do not get to demand anything.

Cut off their add and remind them who relies on whom.
