Boats still set out
Jan 17th, 2014 at 11:16am

Set out because the asylum seekers had already paid out their thousands to travel here.

Surely by now these idiots have heard that our government has changed and arriving here for a free lunch, free medical treatment and paid-for litigation is no longer available?

I'm sorry for any homeless whether kitten, puppy or human but unfortunately, we can't give a home to every stray our pockets are not big enough.

At least, we would expect documentation to prove a person's innocence and, for a start, throwing that way is suspicious.

Ahh the self-serving simplicity of it! A 20,000km, 10 year trek across the most dangerous lands in the world, for a pie, a cheap lawyer and a doctor's appointment!

Like something out of Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

Good deal too, wonder how long it is before people smugglers will send a rickety old thing in the hopes of getting a nice new shiny one.

Kind of ironic seeing as they often started life as "fishing" vessels.

Finally, the men say, they were tricked into getting into the lifeboat. Mr Qadir said a small, bright orange boat with a weather canopy, was tied to the back of the Customs ship. They were told to board it because it would ferry them to Christmas Island.
At the last minute, though, a Customs officer came on board, tossed the asylum seekers a four-page document in a range of languages, and returned to the large ship, which sailed away.
The document, dated December 2013, reads: ''You only have enough fuel to reach land in Indonesia. You do not have enough fuel to continue your voyage to Australia … Your vessel is not equipped for a voyage to Australia. It is not safe to continue your voyage to Australia.
''If you continue on your journey, the master and crew of your boat will face harsh penalties which may include a jail term.'' The men said the captain dropped them very close to Indonesia - it only took three hours to reach shore. They then abandoned the Australian boat and walked into the jungle. They said they had walked for five hours, including crossing a flood-swollen river, to find help.

Free boats for people smugglers???

Quote:
Instead they were picked up by Australian navy vessel HMAS Stuart and kept overnight before being transferred to a Customs vessel and then put on a small, bright orange life-boat-style vessel close to the Indonesian shore, with only enough fuel to return there.

You think that this may have been one of those times they were illegally in Indonesian waters ????

You sure that the smugglers didn't come back with a can of fuel for their nice new boat ?

A spokesman for the Indonesian justice and security minister said the life-boat turn-back policy would "slow down the normalisation of relations" between the two countries.

Quote:
"We have rejected the (turn-back) policy from the start and the reason for rejection is clear," said spokesman Agus Barnas.

"It is against the UN Convention on Refugees. Australia signed the convention so it must abide by it."

What's normalisation of relations mean to the Indonesians.
Another 50,000 country shoppers on Indonesian smugglers boats crewed by Indonesians arriving all the time whilst we continue to give the Indonesians hundreds of millions of dollars each year, plus giving them aircraft and patrol boats so they can keep them up north.
Normalisation is not what we need.

Doing what is important in the national interest.
And having criminal people smugglers running our migration process isn't in the national interest.
Never was, never will be.

It will.
It seems the only territorial integrity and sovereignty there concerned about is there own funnily enough.
They can oppose the turn back policy till they go blue in the face.
It's this countries policy.
