Where do you reckon they are sent to now, and always?

If you are Indian and you fail to establish refugee status here..........do you reckon they'll go to South Africa?

If you are attempting to built an argument that once we exceed 12000 asylum seekers in a year then anyone over that is automatically returned then I call bullshit.

Surely by now these idiots have heard that our government has changed and arriving here for a free lunch, free medical treatment and paid-for litigation is no longer available?

Ahh the self-serving simplicity of it! A 20,000km, 10 year trek across the most dangerous lands in the world, for a pie, a cheap lawyer and a doctor's appointment!

Like something out of Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

Ten years? They'd wait less time in a refugee camp...

More proof you know nothing about refugees, or even check basic facts.

You could be closer to the truth than you realise Aussie under this current government.

Under the Howard government - it didn't matter what part of the ME you were from - you were sent back to Turkey with a one day visa. Some of these people are still languishing there stateless.

Abbott could follow a similar path. I doubt the Coalition cares one little bit about the fate of asylum seekers.

The fact is that many would die of old age in a refugee camp if they chose to wait.

This is how we are being judged overseas.

Quote:
New York-based Human Rights Watch has criticised Australia in its annual world report, saying it has damaged its record by persistently undercutting refugee protections.

Human Rights Watch says successive Australian governments continue to engage in scare-mongering politics at the expense of the rights of asylum seekers and refugees.

"Successive governments have prioritised domestic politics over Australia's international legal obligations to protect the rights of asylum seekers," the report said.

"Too often, the Government has attempted to demonise those trying to reach Australia by boat and has insisted that officials refer to all asylum seekers who do so as 'illegal maritime arrivals'."

It says although Australia has a strong record protecting civil and political rights, it has damaged that record and its potential to be a regional human rights leader.

The group's criticism is directed at both the previous Labor leadership as well as the current Government.

Democratically elected governments act according to the will of those who elected them rater than according to the will of unelected foreign bodies. How dreadful, democracy.

'illegal maritime arrivals' are called 'illegal maritime arrivals' because they are 'illegal maritime arrivals'.

They may have been asylum seeker when they crossed the border of their home countries and arrived in the first safe country. But when they leave such places where they are not threatened (after all, they are not seeking asylum because of their treatment in Indonesia) illegally and try to enter another country, Australia also illegally, then they are 'illegal maritime arrivals'.

A spokesman for the Indonesian justice and security minister said the life-boat turn-back policy would "slow down the normalisation of relations" between the two countries.

"It is against the UN Convention on Refugees. Australia signed the convention so it must abide by it."

He mistakenly thinks that the Australian government have some integrity.

What's normalisation of relations mean to the Indonesians.
Another 50,000 country shoppers on Indonesian smugglers boats crewed by Indonesians arriving all the time whilst we continue to give the Indonesians hundreds of millions of dollars each year, plus giving them aircraft and patrol boats so they can keep them up north.
Normalisation is not what we need.

I think the point is what does integrity mean to the Australian government.

Doing what is important in the national interest.
And having criminal people smugglers running our migration process isn't in the national interest.
Never was, never will be.

This!

If GST rises by 5%, then your income must also rise by 5%. Which means you will either become unemployed or underpaid. Choose wisely

obviously, they are not as corrupted and/or stupid as you are
they care about their borders and their people more than some jihadists pretend to be refugees

They are not sent back (refouled). They are safe from whatever they were fleeing.

And why go to Indonesia voluntarily if being out of harm's way is not enough?  To leave Indonesia illegally and enter Australia, also illegally, and claim that somehow they were not out of harm's way in Indonesia, where they went voluntarily.

What you, Bolty and Pickering choose to call them isn't important.

The Migration Act 1958, however, is.
