A Socialist Elected in Seattle
Jan 7th, 2014 at 8:10am

This lady was elected in Seattle after a campaign in which she openly declared herself to be a socialist. She attributes her win to the younger generation of voters who she says are much more open to socialism then their old generation counterparts because of the many years of Democratic and Republican Capitalist party neglect for the interests of the common man and woman.  From small beginnings

The video clip is from Democracy Now

The young voters are naive and we cant blame them for that.
wait 15 years til they have a mortgage, kids, bills and see that socialism is incapable of creating real jobs in the real economy. they may well have a change of heart.

we can then welcome them back into the fold that is "the free market"

these sorts of candidates have appeal to those who have never known adversity.

i'd bet that most of our vietnamese refugees who settled in western sydney and started small businesses would be passionate supporters of the conservative side of politics. they want to get ahead and dont want the socialist anchor weighing them down Wink

You mean wait 15 years when they're enslaved by their mortgages, their bills and their kids and have no choice but to work in your so called "real jobs" after seeing you and your mates EVERY DAY on this forum ferociously calling for those jobs to be reduced to little more then slave labour.  Every day on this forum we see it from you and your friends.  "Bring back work choices", "Cut wages", "Get rid of penalty rates", "No more paid overtime, you should be grateful you even have a job",

Do you think you're the only one who can see what those so called "real jobs" will look like in 15 years.  Well the young can see it because they're the ones under the gun in 15 years and that's why they're looking for a real alternative to your veraciously greedy capitalist system that wont stop itself but must be stopped if they and their children have any hope of living a decent civilized life in a clean earth that you will no longer be allowed to trash.

And every time I see you call for still more of your tax cuts and govt handouts and for our pay and conditions to be downgraded yet again I see you digging your hole deeper and deeper, just as Marx predicted. Capitalism will implode under the weight of it's own contradictions and the greed that made a few of you absurdly rich and which you don't have the strength or good sense to control, will bring the whole thing crashing down, just as the banker's greed brought it down in 2008, for which we, who were not at fault are still paying all over the world. Only this time you wont be able to resuscitate it.  See you on the other side.

She did it, now watch other socialist candidates pop up all over the states.

The young have very little chance of a full working life in America and they know it (same here) that's why they are voting for an alternative.

They have at last figured out that the old system, where the top 1% of the population own 80% of the wealth has failed them miserably.

It's time to shrink that ever growing gap between rich and poor.

Young voters are anything but naive, never have more people acquired further education than today.

Yes indeed Pansi.  It astounds me how often I have read in mainstream media in the last 6 months how socialism is not a dirty word anymore.  I think after the wall went down capitalism had its head abusing everyone and everything in its wake and now people realise that it is "the totalitarianism" that we see now in our monstrous capitalist systems that is the problem and not the socialism.  Like reading your posts BTW

In the USA a move back toward sanity is badly needed.
