Knowledge Massacre

Canada's Harper government is yet another hard-right wing Conservative administration. It leads the way for the likes of Tony Abbott.

How the Harper Government Committed a Knowledge Massacre

Capt. Trevor Greene

Quote:
Scientists are calling it "libricide." Seven of the nine world-famous Department of Fisheries and Oceans [DFO] libraries were closed by autumn 2013, ostensibly to digitize the materials and reduce costs. But sources told the independent Tyee in December that a fraction of the 600,000-volume collection had been digitized. And, a secret federal document notes that a paltry $443,000 a year will be saved. The massacre was done quickly, with no record keeping and no attempt to preserve the material in universities. Scientists said precious collections were consigned to dumpsters, were burned or went to landfills.
...

Does anyone know of another right-winger who destroyed information that was contrary to his ideology?

A con government that sells the right to hunt and slaughter endangered polar bears, and pollute the environment with dirty tar sand … as bad as the news is about con governments around the world, it's typical of their backward looking action to try and hide their backward looking activities.

con governments are short term and reactive in their approach … look at the abbott government denying long term trends like AGW.

One or two do spring to mind, yes.

But in the end, they were destroyed.

As the current lot surely should be. And the sooner, the better.

The Canada of which you speak is not the Canada of this universe.

You apparently do not, either, because one actually is.

And you voted for it.  Angry  Sad

It's an interesting discussion.

I wish I could remember the name or find the documentary I saw on the loss of knowledge.

Its premiss which was supported anecdotally was after the 2nd world war there was a concerted effort to increase the over all intelligence of the next generation in western society.
Baby formula was developed that improved brain function & development, more critical thinking was introduced into the general school curriculum etc etc.

However these children grew up & became adults in the 60's & as we know this generation became troublesome for governments & the establishment by questioning direction instead of blindly following.

Hence the resurgence of breast feeding & the starving of funds to our public schools by both sides of politics.

Of course conservatives here will call bullsh!t, but I'll have another search on key words & might get lucky.

REBELLION is not what most people think it is.
REBELLION is when you turn off the TV & start educating & thinking for yourself.

For those who apparently didn't realise that Canada is in the deadening grip of conservatism:
Conservatives dismantling social programs built over generations
Quote:
From the unemployed to low-income families and poor seniors, more people than ever are struggling with grim choices as they try to cope in the leaner, meaner Canada presided over by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

They also became troublesome by providing the mass market for the illicit drug industry we are lumbered with today . . .and I confess my part in our downfall.
It wasn't all beautiful people.

You wouldn't know "hard right-wing" if it walked up and kicked you in the arse.

Hope they would otherwise more severe methods may have to be employed.
