Public servant Erika Magro loses bid for compensation over office move

A Canberra public servant who suffered a mental breakdown after moving offices has been denied compensation.

Two years ago Erika Magro was working for the Department of Health and Aging when she found out her division would need to close because it was too small.

She was transferred into the much larger central ACT office, but within two months she had stopped coming into work all together.

Her psychologist said she seemed to be suffering from an "adjustment disorder" as a result of the work restructure.

Commcare twice refused to pay her compensation because it said her condition was caused by reasonable administrative action.

This week the Administrative Appeals Tribunal agreed, finding Ms Magro's illness was technically not an injury and therefore no compensation was payable.

woody this is quite normal for the PUBLIC SERVICE.. do not think this is a one off????...they cannot cope with a change of ink. let alone an office..ILLNESS MY FOOT>. I wonder if crook will read this thread... Roll Eyes

at least he will have some idea what is costing the tax payers zillions a year in compo ??? but he would probably fight her cause... Grin

and then wonder why there isnt any money for emergency services..... god help us.

what qualifications would the staff need.?????.

Ah typical, the usual suspects judging a person without knowing anything about them. Guess what, a psychologist, someone more than likely with a masters degree, diagnosed this person with a legitimate mental disorder. Compensation or not compensation, stop your stupid generalizations. Sitting on the shitter does not qualify you for anything.

phil.... she didnt want a new office even though the one she wanted had closed..???? have you any idea how long it takes for a comcare claim to pass through the system in the PUBLIC SERVICE?

it take a fair while and a lot of man hours.. all because she didnt like the view or something???....why not LEAVE... ahhhhh n o they dont leave anymore they go on sick leave...at enormous expense...

how fragile do you think you have to be these days????????????

can you see FAIRWORK dealing with this type of claim..in the FUTURE..

remember the lass that wanted compo because a lamp fell on her head having sex in the hotel she was staying in at our expense....whilst at a work related conference.... LOLOLOLOL

Don't know if it was the view or not, but it seems a person probably 200000 times more qualified than you seems to think that even if it was "THE VIEW" then its STILL A MENTAL DISORDER.

So how about saying, "Perhaps compensation is not warranted" but NOT SIMPLIFYING TO "SHE DIDN"T LIKE A VIEW"? Despicable!

Perhaps I can diagnose her with "loser disorder" - someone who can't adjust to new things. After all, I have a higher qualification than a Masters.
