I read the summary and the only point I thought was interesting was that political movements need to spring from the people themselves, rather than be imposed by an elite. He sights a lot of the movements from the 60s and 70s. While some of this may have been okay (like equality of opportunity), that's where the rot really sank in. It opened the gates for any group, no matter how minuscule or ludicrous, to start sprouting about their rights. I wouldn't call many of these groups grassroots movements; more like uppity narcissists and anarchists rebelling against the capitalist system because it's coooool maaaaaan.

I watched a documentary the other day on George Harrison. He went to America to meet the alternative movement and was very disappointed. He expected to see lots of little craft shops and artisans everywhere, but he was confronted with "pimply faced bums" (his words) who had little motivation or ambition in life. That pretty much sums up the crowd that supported the "intellectuals" of the 60s and 70s.
