Same as Viewpoint.  just because other countries have abysmal record when it comes to the treatment of asylum seekers, doesn't excuse our own record.

As a 'progressive' I didn't realise I had to comment on every topic, in every country. Could you please put that in the rules next time so that people are aware of the rules.

As this is an Aussie forum, I usually limit my comments to things that are relvant to Australia

You might want to explain that to viewpoint ... he seems a little ignorant of the facts. He complains because we've had 50 000 asylum seekers in the last 6 yrs, Italy has over 100 000 asylum seekers EACH AND EVERY YEAR.

Yes and we would get 100 000 asylum centrelink seekers a year too if you, rudd and gillard had anything to do with it.

What record? They're treated better than most Australians are. What Australians get free clothes, food, and shelter from the government?

One of those stories is from the media Cods, with direct quotes from the UN people who assessed the facilities.  The other is direct from Amnesty, who again did the review.  It would be a hard stretch to call Amnesty a media group.

See if you can find me one single report which says what a lovely pleasant place either Manus or Nauru detention centers are.

About 100 people were involved in the riot, not all of them, yet somehow that means they are all arsonists now does it?  I normally wouldn't pick you for being prejudiced Cods.

really you must be the only leftie on here that doesnt PRESUME THAT..

about 100 or ten..that really isnt the point and Nauru is not the first to be burnt to the ground..

the point I make is real Asylum seekers wouldnt do that would they??just people who think they have special rights..
stratus these places are not meant to be the ROYAL HILTON..

just better than what they had with food water clothes medicine..now we know they receive cigarettes.phones.computers.and they dont have to queue up for hours with a cup in their hand either...

no one claims its perfect..but I dont believe its  cruel either.

if you sailed up on a boat to a middle eastern country do you think they would place you in an airconditioned town house???. plus... Roll Eyes

I cant see it happening..but its ok I am happy to be proved wrong..

btw I am glad you dont think I am prejudiced...anymore than I think you are.
