No we didn't. More spineless apologetics. You desperately seek out any excuse for why you are not allowed to criticise Muslim countries.

OH, you can criticise them to your heart's content but you need to understand what actually happened and why.  The Indonesians had a bee in their bonnet about West Papua being Dutch, despite it never having been a part of the Netherlands East Indies colony.  Suharto demanded that it be ceded to him, rather in the manner Trump is demanding Greenland. He staged an invasion attempt.  The Dutch repelled his forces.  The Dutch sent an aircraft carrier and some ships to defend it but balked at the cost of stationing them so far from home.  Canberra made some belligerent noises but lacked the forces. Washington was more interested in assuring freedom of navigation for it's SLBM carrying submarines from Guam and refused our request for support.  Canberra was forced to back down and agreed to the Dutch signing over the administration to the UN.  The UN decided to sign the administration over to Indonesia who held a mock referendum amongst the Papuans.  Canberra, alarmed at the US response began taking a greater interest in world events and got involved in South Vietnam and forced the American commitment.  We became involved in our longest military commitment before Afghanistan.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

But we have no right to protest?

You can protest all you want, Australia surrendered that right in 1961.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Man, woman lashed 140 times over sex, alcohol

She was put on a stretcher and rushed to an ambulance.

A man and woman were publicly beaten after being busted engaging in two acts that are banned in Indonesia.

Ronny Reyes – The New York Post

Police lashed a woman and her lover 140 times each for having sex outside marriage and drinking alcohol in a far-flung region of Indonesia on Thursday — one of the harshest punishments carried out in 25 years.

The brutal beating — with a rattan cane — caused the woman to sob and collapse in the region of Aceh, which is governed by strict Islamic laws.

The lovers were caned on their back in a public flogging.

It is among the harshest sentences imposed since Sharia law was implemented in Aceh in 2001, the Agence France-Presse reported.

The pair received 100 hits for pre-marital sex, and 40 for consuming alcohol which is banned.

Officials could be seen escorting the collapsed woman on a stretcher to a nearby ambulance after the brutal beating in Aceh, the only place in Indonesia where Sharia law stands.

The lovers were only two of six people gathered at the public square for the punishment for breaking the Islamic code.

Among them were a Sharia police officer and his female partner, who were accused of being in close proximity to each other in a private place.

The couple received 23 strikes each as their punishment.

“As promised, we make no exceptions, especially not for our own members. This certainly tarnishes our name,” Rizal told the AFP.

The public beatings remain a popular tool in Aceh to punish those who break Sharia law, with perpetrators risking hits if they also take part in gambling, missing important prayers, or having gay sex.

Last year, reports emerged of two men receiving 76 strikes after they were caught hugging and kissing in a public bathroom.

Calling them terrible IS already a critical judgement.

Bbwiyawn is merely stupid and spineless and...er... that's it, 'mafraid.

Interesting point.

Brian, did you do something that you lack both the right and the ability to do?

Islamic law creeping into schools:

UK Councils Warn Schools: Children's Drawings Could Be Blasphemous Under Islamic Law

In yet another assault on free expression in British classrooms, schools are being instructed by Labour councils to treat kids’ innocent drawings as potential offenses under Islamic interpretations.

Guidelines warn that depicting humans or prophets could spark blasphemy complaints, forcing teachers to tiptoe around religious sensitivities at the expense of creativity and open education.

The push comes amid a broader Labour government drive to monitor and suppress any perceived slights against Muslims, turning schools into surveillance outposts rather than places of learning.

The guidance, titled “Sharing the Journey,” originates from northern Labour councils like Leeds, Calderdale, Oldham, and Wakefield, and has been adopted by others including Sefton and Tameside. It explicitly states that “for some Muslim parents, sensitivities may exist in connection with the teaching of aspects of art, dance, drama, music, physical education, religious education and RSHE”.

Teachers are advised: “It is very important that the school understands this and is also careful not to ask its students to reproduce images of Jesus, the Prophet Mohammed or other figures considered to be prophets in Islam. Some Muslim pupils may not wish to draw the human figure.” This stems from hadith interpretations prohibiting images of living beings, viewed as idolatrous by some sects.

The restrictions don’t stop at art. On music, the document notes: “in Islam, music is traditionally limited to the human voice and non-tuneable percussion instruments as in the days of the Prophet, when they were only used in marriage ceremonies and on the battlefield”. It adds that “schools should listen to any concerns, discuss the place of music in the curriculum and ensure that students are not asked to join in songs that conflict with their religious beliefs”.

Dance lessons face similar scrutiny, with warnings that they could cause parental concerns over “physical contact between males and females”. The overall aim, per the introduction, is to play a part in “building harmony and understanding” and fostering “cohesion” in local communities.

This guidance ties directly into Labour’s escalating surveillance in schools. As we previously reported, Communities Secretary Steve Reed announced: “Today, we are adopting a non-statutory definition of anti-Muslim hostility. This gives a clear explanation of unacceptable prejudice, discrimination and hatred targeting Muslims, so we can take action to stop it.”
