In NSW Labor were on the nose...
they changed leaders (several times)
Kristina was much more popular than Barry...

Labor still copped a thumping.

Kristina never got the poll to 50/50
and Barry wasn't in negative approval.
And in the near end Barry was preferred PM.

Until the actual year of the election Kristina was streets ahead...  I have no doubt the current figures will narrow the longer he drags it out.

If I was polled on preferred Premier I'd pick Kristina too... yet I wouldn't have voted for her party at the election.

We DO have high levels of debt.
In fact it is the largest in our history in dollar terms and very close to the largest in GDP terms. and what is worse is that only a mere 6 years ago we have NO DEBT at all.

Don't pretend to be STUPID
It doesn't BECOME you

Even John Howard is capable of coming clean with the TRUTH - occasionally - and giving
credit, where credit is DUE

Quote:
Former prime minister
John Howard gave the economy a big tick
before Treasurer Wayne Swan delivered his sixth budget on Tuesday night.

''And our debt to GDP ratio, the amount of money we owe, to the strength of our economy, is still a lot better than most other countries,'' he said.

He said
Australia's economy was better than the economies of Japan, the US and most European countries.

This is in stark contrast to his protege and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott's assessment of doom and gloom on Monday
.

Australia’s
GFC stimulus debt
is the second lowest in the OECD.
Gross debt stands at 28.9% of GDP.

This compares to Japan at 224%,
Greece at 193.2%,
Portugal at 133.1%,
Italy at 129.6%,
Ireland at 127.7%,
United States at 113%,
France at 108.2%,
UK at 110.4%,
Canada at 85.5%,
Spain at 100.2%
Germany at 86.2%.

you have a poor definition of 'good'.

MY definition ?

I just presented the FACTS

The BIG ticks of APPROVAL come from ...

Standard & Poor's
Moody's
Fitch's
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
EuroMoney (Finance Minister of the Year Honours)
The International Monetary Fund (IMF)
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA)
The Australian Bureau of Statistics ( ... by stealth)
The Butcher
The Baker
The Candlestick Maker

... and NOW - a few days back - the former member for Bennelong

The ONLY talking down of the ecomomy and the Federal Treasurer is coming from the Opposition, NEWS Ltd - and Sydney shock-jocks

I know who I trust

Since I live in NSW and was around I remember how popular she was...  also I know better than to put much faith in polls...  Howard was always unpopular...  care to explain that then hmmmm?

Keneally was ahead right up till 6 months before the election...  When she became Premier, she was highly popular and was the most popular political leader at one stage, as the Galaxy poll showed in March 2010, her personal satisfaction was 53 per cent. Her popularity began to decline in August 2010.

I think however that it isn't the pollies who are to blame. it really is the voters who are to blame.  It is said that in democracies we get the governments we DESERVE. After 1993 and the unlosable election the previous practice of announcing policies well in advance of an election ended.  It ended because parties on both sides realised that they risked being punished by the electorate.  that is why no party ever releases detailed policy in advance any more.

The people aren't to blame. It is how the leader promotes him/herself and their party. Abbott says he will stop the boats, but most of us know this is impossible. Howard got away with defying UN Conventions because 9/11 had just happened and he used the terrorist fear factor. Abbott won't have that opportunity, especially as Indonesia wants us to share the responsibility of coping with the refugees. They are a developing country with a population of 250 million. They look at us in this vast wealthy country and question why we can't cope with an extra 40,000 refugees per year.

Abbott has explained so little. The only real policy we understand is his paid parental leave which is extremely divisive and will replace the current scheme where all women are considered equal.

Abbott is also unpredictable in his mood swings. He's not prepared to debate Rudd and he has a history of semi controlled violence which could rear its ugly head at any time he's under pressure.

Don't worry too much - Abbott is now in a losing position.

if the economy is so good then why do we have increasing unemployment, slowing growth and massive deficits every year?

and quoting ratings agencies is rather funny since there are hardly any more-discredited bodies than ratings agencies.  These are the same groups that had Lehmann Bros at AAA just before they went under, the same as the two mortage bodies in the USA that went under.  They are the same groups wanting to reduce the ratings of our 4 banks despite them remaining in the top 20 banks in the world.

a AAA rating from them is at best meaningless and more likely, just plain wrong.  What else can you say about bodies that IMPROVE our ratings when every measurement of the economy is in decline?  They must get their analysts from Treasuru.

stopping the boats is impossible???  given that it has already been done successfully for many years it is hard to take you seriously.
