What the moronic righties on here refuse to acknowledge is that nobody ever wanted Abbott as PM ... they simply saw him as the lessor of the two evils when it was Abbott v's Gillard. Abbott would have been leader by default. Now that Gillard is gone Abbott needs to change how he does things or his numbers will end up in the 29% range.

Polls will need to be 54/46 to Labor for me to really believe they have a fighting chance come election day. 50/50 in a minority government, and with the key independents leaving is hardly telling of a story (unless clive/Katter can steal some seats from LNP).

But what I do like is this stat:
voter satisfaction with Mr Rudd up seven points to 43 per cent from 36 per cent the previous weekend.

Rudd is in negative approval, and yet people are preferring him, AND giving Labor the votes because of it, over Tony.

That tells me Tony is now truly Liberal's Achilles' foot.  He is their Julia Gillard.

Liberal members told 'we'll win' by Brian Loughnane

...

Tony Abbott may at some stage need to consider life outside of the Parliament

TONY Abbott is on track for victory in September, the Liberal Party's most senior official has declared, as disillusioned Labor MPs head for the doors and begin looking for post-election jobs.

In an upbeat message to around 350 party faithful on Wednesday night, Liberal federal director Brian Loughnane said the Coalition should win office after six years in opposition.

Several people attending the function - which also heard from the Opposition leader - claim Mr Loughnane's message was that victory was all but assured. "He told us 'we will win','' one Liberal figure said.

Coalition MPs now privately believe the Opposition will win 100 of 150 lower house seats on September 14.

In another sign that Canberra insiders are preparing for a change of government, Alexander Downer is being touted to become our next Ambassador to the United States.

Mr Downer - a former foreign affairs minister and diplomat - has privately made it known that he would be willing to serve in a future Abbott Government.

Such is the level of despair within Labor ranks that at least two Government MPs - Alan Griffin and Daryl Melham - have begun packing up their Canberra offices.

Mr Griffin, who holds the seat of Bruce in outer Melbourne with a margin of nearly 8 per cent, said: "I'm still confident that I can win my seat and I am working to do that."

Mr Melham, the long-serving MP for Banks, has a much harder task to reclaim his Sydney seat that he's held for 23 years.

One senior Labor MP said of the mood within the Government that "if I was selling Prozac, I would make a fortune".

With Labor having one of its worst weeks since 2010, despairing Government staffers are considering life after the September poll. Even the Prime Minister's own communications director, John McTernan, has reportedly been offering his services to Sydney radio host Ben Fordham.

Mr McTernan and Mr Fordham crossed paths at the chairman's box at the State of Origin match in Sydney on Wednesday night. According to the broadcaster, Mr McTernan said: "You might even want me to do a regular spot on your show next year if we lose the election."

Labor MPs were stunned by Mr McTernan's comments, the issue dominating chat within parliamentary offices yesterday.

Meanwhile, Mr Abbott yesterday cited the 100-day mark to the election to again line-up the choice facing voters - "between a government that is incompetent and untrustworthy and an opposition which is offering new hope".

Gillard was replaced and the ALP have a sugar hit because the entire ALP and their supporters are misogynists. The proof is in the results.

All you ALP luvvies are woman haters. It why you wouldn't give Julia an even go. You didn't like her because she was a woman.

No see by definition, I wasnt going to vote for the ALP regardless.

The ALP voters like yourself seemed to have flocked back to the ALP run by a man but deserted it in droves when run by a woman - so you can within the support base of the ALP is a seething underbelly of misogynistic hatred.

Quite telling really considering the accusation thrown at Abbott. I'd say that Gillards little his sky fit in parliament wasnt really directed at Abbott, it was direct directly at the ALP and its supporters.

This proves it correct.
Under a woman = no ALP voters
Under a man = ALP voters come back
Coalition voters= not stupid enough to vote ALP at any stage.

I believe the polls but, either I don't understand why ppl would prefer 50K boat ppl under Rudd rather than Gillard, or why they prefer our debt to hit 500B under Rudd rather than Gillard, or why ppl prefer a carbon tax under Rudd but not Gillard??

I just can't fathom how all those who are against boat ppl carbon tax debt labor corruption etc where all screaming under Gillard, but now they are cool with it under Rudd.

Seriously, it defies belief. But we are fools and the governments treat us as such.

We get the government we deserve, and Rudd and co will see us off the cliff to financial ruin, we're half way there already.

If you add up all the debt of local councils state govs and fed gov debt, we're not that far off the % level of debt to places like Spain and Portugal.

We're fkd.

Rudd widens lead, election race deadlock

The Australian   |  05:56am July 9, 2013

KEVIN Rudd's popularity continues to rise, widening his lead over Tony Abbott as the nation's preferred prime minister, lifting Labor's primary vote to its best since the last election and putting the government dead even with the Coalition after preferences.

Since Mr Rudd was restored as Prime Minister just two weeks ago, Labor's primary vote has risen nine percentage points to 38 per cent to equal its level at the August 2010 election.

In the same period, the Coalition's primary support has fallen six points to 42 per cent, below its election level.

The latest Newspoll survey, conducted exclusively for News Corp Australia at the weekend, reveals that based on preference flows at the last election the Coalition and Labor are both on 50 per cent.

This compared with 51 per cent to 49 per cent to the ALP last week, and the 2010 election result of 49.9 per cent to the Coalition and 50.1 per cent to Labor - a result that ended with minority government.

Personal support for the new Prime Minister is driving Labor's revival, voter satisfaction with Mr Rudd up seven points to 43 per cent from 36 per cent the previous weekend.

A four-point rise as preferred prime minister to 53 per cent gives him a 22-point lead over the Opposition Leader, who fell four points to 31 points.

In the weekend before Julia Gillard was removed, Mr Abbott's lead as preferred prime minister was 45 per cent to 33 per cent and he had been in front since April.

Mr Rudd now has a bigger lead over Mr Abbott than when he was dumped as leader in June 2010.

Mr Rudd's return to the leadership has been dominated by his admission the party was wrong on dealing with illegal boat arrivals, and a trip to Indonesia to discuss trade and people-smuggling with Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

and look who's back.   after 3 years of virtually no comments, 'rogue poll' buzz is back to talk about polls because labor's back in the game.

It certainly is a surprising result but one I think is very soft, Unless you believe that voters are genuine fools it is hard to comprehend that so many people could change sides on the basis of just the change of PM.  and when it is a return to a PM that his own party loathes and one that we know wont remain leader for long it makes even less sense.

Disappointed? absolutely.  but surprise is the far greater response.

I am seriously frightened of an Abbott Government the way he is talking.  He wants to go on another deregulation crusade to give the banks and corporations free reign again like before the GFC.  What that tells me is that he is a threat to Social Democracy and law and order as well as not interested in the protection and security of the Australian people.  Tony Abbott is alarming...
