NEWSPOLL - (Who could have imagined ?)

Rudd widens lead, election race deadlock

The Australian   |  05:56am July 9, 2013

KEVIN Rudd's popularity continues to rise, widening his lead over Tony Abbott as the nation's preferred prime minister, lifting Labor's primary vote to its best since the last election and putting the government dead even with the Coalition after preferences.

Since Mr Rudd was restored as Prime Minister just two weeks ago, Labor's primary vote has risen nine percentage points to 38 per cent to equal its level at the August 2010 election.

In the same period, the Coalition's primary support has fallen six points to 42 per cent, below its election level.

The latest Newspoll survey, conducted exclusively for News Corp Australia at the weekend, reveals that based on preference flows at the last election the Coalition and Labor are both on 50 per cent.

This compared with 51 per cent to 49 per cent to the ALP last week, and the 2010 election result of 49.9 per cent to the Coalition and 50.1 per cent to Labor - a result that ended with minority government.

Personal support for the new Prime Minister is driving Labor's revival, voter satisfaction with Mr Rudd up seven points to 43 per cent from 36 per cent the previous weekend.

A four-point rise as preferred prime minister to 53 per cent gives him a 22-point lead over the Opposition Leader, who fell four points to 31 points.

In the weekend before Julia Gillard was removed, Mr Abbott's lead as preferred prime minister was 45 per cent to 33 per cent and he had been in front since April.

Mr Rudd now has a bigger lead over Mr Abbott than when he was dumped as leader in June 2010.

Mr Rudd's return to the leadership has been dominated by his admission the party was wrong on dealing with illegal boat arrivals, and a trip to Indonesia to discuss trade and people-smuggling with Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Yes, 'all' the tattooed bogans, bogans, 'academics', Left-wing media, cultural Marxists, immigrants, multiculturals, are rushing to worship their hero Rudd.

They're clamouring to cheer and vote for Labor and him, he speaks Chinese, and Labor is the party of free stuff, ...free homes, free $10,000 start-up packs for 'economic asylum-seekers', big screen tvs, furniture, white-goods etc, welfare cash for life...big spending Party with money borrowed from China etc.
"Eureka" "free cash" they cry as they rush to worship Rudd. Smiley

"Schools are Left voter factories" - a woman who rang the radio several years ago said.

Unless something changes, I can see the Liberal-Nationals never winning another election ever again.
...same as in America, the Left has taken over forever.

America's national debt is now $16 trillion...with $4 trillion [4 thousand billion dollars] added in Left Obama's first 4 year term in office.
Immigrants pouring in...millions of illegals...12 million illegals now and 20 million unemployed.

The same thing will happen here...with the Left in charge...the writing is on the wall.

Oh well, Rudd's buddies "The Australian People" and their children, grandchildren etc will get what they vote for at the next election and beyond. Smiley

The latest Roy Morgan poll using 3,500 people is even better.

It has surprised me. Abbott must be shaking in his boots. Where is he? He needs to debate Rudd or his credibility will be further eroded.

Rudd now has ALP in prime position to win Federal Election as Labor gains again. ALP 54.5% (up 3%) cf. L-NP 45.5% (down 3%).

I don't think Rudd is that good - but these figures indicate that people have very little faith in Abbott. We don't even know what his policies are - the main reason people were voting for him is because he wasn't Gillard.

Wow, just wow. The conga  line will be along any minute to tell us this is a rogue poll. But with such a massive number of people polled this can not be sneezed at. Will the Libs dump Abbott for Turnbull? Or risk now losing the most unlosable election in history. No matter what spin the conga lone put on it Labor are well and truly on track to regain government. The only thing holding back the coalition is Abbott.

There was a poll several months ago that indicated the majority of voters in the marginal electorates wanted a Labor government. It would seem that what they wanted was a Rudd led Labor government.

Nah...the only thing holding back the Coalition is the makeup of the population today.

I must say, I'm not so much astounded that there IS a turnaround in Labor's fortunes - but more by the sheer MAGNITUDE of it

Where WAS the electorate's big problem with Gillard - that is now not seen as a problem with the party, itself ?

The "knifing" of the sitting Prime Minister  ( ... I so LOATHE that expression - especially by our more intelligent political reporters) ?

Apparently NOT - as her PERSONAL ratings in "the polls" rose immediately AFTERWARDS - and couldn't Kevin Rudd be tarred with the same brush ?

That debatable "broken promise" on ...
"There will be no carbon tax on a government I lead - but I am DETERMINED to put a price on carbon" ?

It's hard to SAY
Polls from month back show the electorate now BACKS carbon permit fixed pricing - as the introduction to our Emissions Trading Scheme
( ... I suspect this MAY have been due to this "carbon tax failing to flow through to a retail level - or showing any noticeable impact on mining, industry, unemployment - or legs of lamb - and a "lapping up" of the overcompensation packages)

The electorate are fully behind such Gillard reforms as Fair Work Australia ( ... and the abolition of the much hated Howard WorkChoices), the NDIS, education funding reform, etc - - much of which achieved through a difficult, hostile hung parliament and minority government

So where did she do SO WRONG ?

It's looking more and more like Australian's didn't so much want a change of GOVERNMENT - as they did a change of PRIME MINISTER

Haha - I don't think we can blame the people. The fact is Abbott is not that likeable and people generally vote for a leader they like.

I would vote for Turnbull over Rudd. If Turnbull hadn't been turfed and given half a chance - he'd probably get the Coalition in for next term.

A lot of it was the fact that she was a woman. Perhaps if she had been more attractive and married with children it might have helped.

The RW media are now blaming Rudd for all Gillard's problems and many of these policies were Rudds. She didn't deserve a fraction of the abuse she was subject to on a daily basis. It was disgusting.
