New Zealand Drought

Worse drought news: No rain on the horizon

The Government has declared a state of drought in the Buller and Grey Districts on the West Coast.

"It is very unusual for the West Coast to experience drought conditions and is not something that local farmers are used to. It shows just how extreme this dry period has been."

The entire North Island remains in a state of drought.

DRY FORECAST
Weather experts have heartbreaking news for farmers struggling to cope with drought throughout the country - no rain is likely for at least another 10 days.

Rivers were also at record lows, Niwa said.

Such droughts were likely to become more frequent, chief climate scientist David Wratt said.

This year, high-pressure belts in the tropics had expanded further south than normal and this would become more common.

Work on the effect of rising greenhouse gas emissions showed a one-in-20-year drought would occur at least twice as often in the 2080s in parts of Otago, Canterbury, Marlborough, Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, Bay of Plenty and Northland.

=====================
You know something is happening, IF New Zealand is in Drought, particularly IF the South Island is affected!

In fact, it seems some cities on the North Island, are now starting to run low on drinking water.

And, all of this is increasing pressure on the NZ Economy, confirming that Climate Change Costs the REAL Economy!

Very interesting, in more ways than one. Resourceful bunch, wonder how they'll cope, (or not) with this challenge. Good luck Kiwi's.

Does it?!?!?

Why do you keep getting sucked in by loony denier blogs and silly stories from The Australian then?

eg:

http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1363210916

http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1361580613/3#3

You have displayed your sheer gullibility here many times.  Same pattern every time.  You fall hook, line and sinker for the latest silly denier blog post, or David Rose column - then you excitedly post it here - then when asked to explain the obvious flaws in the crap you post - you run away, then start all over again.

Post after post after post - you happily regurgitate the silliest nonsense - then run away when you are called on it

DO you really think you are fooling anyone?  Besides yourself?

It's an unfortunate piece of journalism.  While it is beyond dispute that increasing CO2 levels will affect the climate, and is starting to have an effect, about all that can be said is that "1 in 20 year" droughts in NZ will be about twice as common around 2080.

The article doesn't actually state that the drought is caused by climate change, but it implies it, which is more than can be reasonable deduced, although what the climate scientists themselves said was correct. This kind of reporting doesn't do anybody any favours.

It's a subtle effect. Of course it comes with real economic effects though.

I think its really annoying that the Kiwis get a bit of a dry spell and they think they can steal the 2013 Climate Change is Gonna Destroy Us All We Are Doomed mantle from our very own d1ckwads at the Aussie BoM.

Everyone knows that Australian droughts are the best, they have to be, we break all the Records, including the Record for the most amount of Records broken, the Record for the most amount of new record category created in one summer (an
ANGRY SUMMER
at that) - as confirmed by 97% of the handful of climate scientists scammers who can answer a two question online survey and the usual associated useful idiots, carpet baggers and rent seekers of the CAUSE.

Just remember, its all about the vibe consensus, contrary views not accepted  Wink
