O'Farrell appoints Lib fundraiser to State Water
Mar 2nd, 2013 at 10:17pm

You'd think Barry would have learned from NSW Labor's mistakes, but his Govt has just made yet another "jobs for the boys" appointment.

This time, a Liberal party fundraiser has been appointed to the board of State Water.

Adding a little more juice to the story, the guy is a major shareholder in a water contracting company (AWH) that is currently lobbying for $1bn in contracts with....wait for it.... Sydney Water! He was also lent $3m by the infamous Obeids to buy his shares in the AWH, which formerly featured Liberal Senator Arthur Sinodinos as Chairman (who "forgot" he had been chairman, until last week).

Quote:
A PROMINENT Liberal Party figure known for his fund-raising prowess, Nick di Girolamo, was appointed to a $100,000 position on the board of a state-owned corporation by the NSW government last year.
The appointment of Mr di Girolamo to the board of State Water Corporation in July came after the Coalition criticised the former Labor government's appointment to the same board of the disgraced former Health Services Union boss Michael Williamson.

Just add it to the list...

• Former lib leader Nick Greiner appointed boss of Infrastructure NSW;
• Former lib leader John Brogden appointed boss of Landcom;
• Minister's mate John Messara appointed to head Racing NSW;
• Former Lib leader Peter Collins' company awarded a trial contract for hospital patient transport services;
• Liberal Party donor Roger Massy-Greene appointed to the board of Networks NSW on $200,000pa

That's just how it goes.  They are all the same.  Only difference is conservatives have a short memory and like to whinge as often as possible.  Hence when it's labor it's end of the world. When it's libs its 1,000,000 excuses.

Inappropriate appointment. It's offensive in the context of what's just come to light in NSW.

in the meantime back in the labor cesspool, Gillard appoints a former NSW premier to be foreign minister. And also appoints a woman to a senate seat despite not even being in the ALP and throws out the existing long-term senator.

It's the conflict of interest that is most disturbing. If O'Farrell has a plan and he wants to appoint a man or woman of similar convictions to see through that plan, I'm not sure that's a bad thing. It's certainly not unusual in Australian politics. However, if the appointee is not suitably qualified for the position or has an obvious conflict of interest, then we have a major problem. How can we be ever certain that tender processes at State Water will ever be legit. It would seem that di Girolamo is likely to end up with far more money from the taxpayer than he ever gifted the Libs.

Why has Baird seemingly thrown out his own checks and balances.

It's hard to fathom why anyone would want to justify this appointment.

who do you think she should appoint as foreign minister? perhaps Peter Reith? of course she's going to pick labor people to fill ministerial positions ....... this guy on the other hand, is being put in a leading role in one of the states public utilities ... it is not a political role and he should not be awarded the position on the basis of his politics ... the conflict of interest makes it even worse

Julia Gillard.
The lady who put it to cabinet "Pensioners don't tend to vote Labor" when discussing raising pension allowance.

Ethical? Or disgusting?

That sits ok with you does it?

Putting forward a proposal not to help out pensioners because of the way they vote?

Disgusting.

Where was your condemnation when Howard for years refused to up the pension? Where was your disgust?

Of the two parties one has increased pensions, the other has not. .... I don't care what they discuss, I'm pretty sure some poli's discuss the possible votes from the ethnic community .. so what, is that any worse? ... as far as I'm concerned it's part and parcel of their job ... I am happy to have poli's discuss everything ... I'd rather they consider the ramifications of their actions than just make ad hoc policy without considering the people it affects.

Then why the public outrage over what she said when it came out?
And why did an insider leak the comment?

If its perfectly fine to hold such views.

Does also highlight why they always go after my $180+ demographic doesn't it?
They come after those they don't like.
As we always suspected.

Public outrage? The only time I've ever heard of it is when you put it up on oz politic .... the public couldn't have been that outraged!!  ... of course if your are reading Murdoch's press you need to understand that they are outraged every time Gillard gets up in the morning ...

It probably does highlight why they go after your $180 000 demographic ... they need to look after their supporter base otherwise the party ceases to exist. Do you think any political party is any different? Don't be so naive

An independent board should make these appointments from a list of people who apply for the position.....The current process lacks accountability and due process.....Although I have no doubt these men are capable of doing the job taxpayers should always have confidence the best person is chosen for the job for the right reasons!!!

Huh Huh Huh
