it means that christians cling to the past, and hope the good old days will come again.
Come again>!!??
Yep,, they can't face reality so they see everything through the clouded lens of religion. No wonder they are so ineffective.. and bring on the commission of enquiry into systemic abuse of children and the vulnerable by the PRIESTS and the Church .
What does it mean? SHAME EMBARRASSMENT HELPLESSNESS
i would actually totally reject that.
whilst i follow my own brand of christian/buddhist/nature worship

i actually find it is the aetheists and the secular west who cant face reality and resort to helplessness.
if you look at what religion has provided man (or what it should provide him ) it is preparation for death.
certainly if we look at the attitude to death of many devout people throughout the ages, we see they approached death with courage and honour.
as general paton said "there are no aetheists in fox holes"
if we look at the buddhist tradition we see an enormous focus on practicing for ones death and being realistic about it.
if we look at islam we see a focus on "learn to die, before you die and you will never die"
one could even say the lunatics who flew into the twin towers, certainly faced their death , with more courage and conviction than the
"helpless" aetheists back in economy class.
the secular aetheists are terrified of death.
i doubt many of them have ever seena dead body
they lock away the dying in hospitals so they wont have to deal with their own feelings of shame and hopelessness.
but deal with it they will. and this, emma, is reality.
so the aetheists better come up with a plan or i would say they are mired in a false world, living in denial and unable to admit their hopelessness.
