christianity (like buddhism0 is full of paradoxes.
as is this thread.
its rather paradoxical that a thread about what it means to be a christian is turned into the gospel of spot, bobby, pansi and nail.
all are hardly great christian theologans (though bobby at least has done some research)
you cant judge christianity by christians any more than you could judge unions by thommo and kathy jackson. people are failures and this is a human failing.
also you simply have to get away from the idea that god is some sort of cop or film director who runs things or is going to call you in for questioing upon your death.
people who believe that are paradoxicly misunderstanding.
jesus spoke in very mystical terms about god.
he used terms like god is the way god is the light god is the truth god is eternal water. god will quench eternal thirst.
none of these suggest god as anything other then a force
if you believe, say that god is truth, then study of science or physics or climate change is godly work. if you believe god is the way, then you believe very similar to the buddhist belief in "a path"
jesus story is a story of human suffering. and the buddhas first "realization" was that life is suffering.
so if christianity helps one "carry ones cross" so to speak, this will help one on ones path.
the idea that christians would pray for "something" is again incorrect.
a true christian would never pray for anything for themselves.
like the famous flawed catholic JFK, they would ask god what i can do for you , not what you can do for me.
you can tease and go on about fairy kings all you like.
you could also say the world football codes are nothing but hitting a bit of leather backwards and forwards and are a total fing joke. but if people get joy, peace, happiness and togetherness out of cheering for a soccer team, does it really matter if the actual core is somewhat silly.
the 4 gospel writers, borg, pans, bat and nail need to examine facts such as these and see if they are not just being knockers and spoilt sports
