Again with the atheists. Some atheists love xmas. Some just tolerate it. Some just ignore it. Some have never even heard of it (yeah you see there are other countries than australia and america in the world). It has nothing to do with a lack of belief in a deity.

But I bet (and I am not a betting person) that you all take the CHRISTmas holidays?

Maybe because it's a Pagan celebration that the Christians adopted for some strange reason, who knows???? It's more of a tradition than anything else for the non-religious folk. Any excuse for a holiday and a spendathon, I suppose.

Giving gifts is a metaphor for the birth of Jesus which was (supposed) to be a 'gift' to the world.

Just as you didn't know the significance of the egg for Easter (and mixed up the crucifixion with the birth) I guess you didn't know the significance of gift giving.

It probably helps to understand the things you despise so much. Otherwise it makes you look kind of dumb.

Now for the real story.

How Did Christmas Come to Be Celebrated on December 25?

The Origin of Christmas Presents

In pre-Christian Rome, the emperors compelled their most despised citizens to bring offerings and gifts during the Saturnalia (in December) and Kalends (in January).  Later, this ritual expanded to include gift-giving among the general populace.  The Catholic Church gave this custom a Christian flavor by re-rooting it in the supposed gift-giving of Saint Nicholas

It is obvious that gift-giving transcends cultures, however, in the context of Christianity I am right; Christ was a "gift" from "above." The symbolism carries over today in the practice of gift-giving.

Your family probably aren't ignoring Christmas. That's just the excuse they give for ignoring you at Christmas time. No one could blame them.

Its completely stupid the way everything is shut on "good friday" in this country. There is no way anyone can work on that day so your statement is dishonest. Besides who doesnt want a day off?

It doesn't mean a great deal to the 'Christians' on this forum.

If they really, truly believed in heaven and hell, they'd be scared enough to treat God's children like they'd treat Jesus if he were to sign on.

The real Christians who follow the bible to the nth degree are out doing God's work, not cussing at non-Christians and Muslims.

If they really believed the bible stuff, they'd be scared enough to put in a decent effort, these dudes don't even try to act nice, let alone Christ-like.

If they honestly believed they are going to spend all eternity (that's a loooong time) burning in hell, screaming to be freed, in absolute agony watching other people having an absolutely divine existence across the way, they'd be nice. That's not a cool image, they make hell sound very hellish in the bible, the greatest torture one can imagine forever and ever.

I can't think of one so-called Christian on this forum, that would be excused from hell, they're not nice to Gods children, that alone strikes their names off the heaven list, if we are going buy the bible readings, of course.

But then again, there's that all important clause that says "repent and ask for forgiveness" and it's straight up to heaven you go.

It means nothing to be a Christian because they are exactly the same as non-Christians, they just think they're superior.
