Of course atheists will deny that, but it's just plain common sense!

Nope. Some atheists believe there is no diety and some just dont have a belief in a deity.

SOB

So some atheists believe (as you worded above) yet don't have a belief? DUH!!

Why cant you understand it? Some atheists believe there isnt a god (thats a belief) and some atheists just dont believe that there is a god (not a belief).

Aha, doesn't take long for someone like you to start to make nasty remarks. It seems it always is a trait with those who cannot conduct a debate and are usually bully boys. And usually bully boys are just little boys!

This website might shine some light on what atheists are all about.

If you don't like that one, there are plenty of others.

It's OK to be agnostic/atheist, just not to make an issue of it.  Those who make an issue of it are invariably leftist arsewipes.

Kinda like Vegans, I guess.

How do you know if someone's a Vegan?  They'll tell you!

Hi Spot,
A truer statement has never been made.
People pretend to believe in religion because they are afraid of death.
It gives their life some purpose but deep down they know it's all fairy tales.

But aren't atheists afraid of death as well? Even more so, in my opinion. What is the modern fascination with looking perpetually youthful than being scared of old age and death? What is the growth and use of the latest medical science other than to prolong life and stave off death? What is the modern disposition of being 'offended' at every turn other than to live a safe, quiet, comfortable life free of danger and death? What is the rise in the use of anti-depression medication other than to stave off feelings of hopelessness and meaninglessness in a post-god world?

For every technological and scientific advance that has been made in the atheist age, many people are still often depressed and angst-ridden.

Atheists are afraid of death too but they don't want an imaginary friend
who makes false promises of ever lasting life to make them feel better.

Think about - who'd want to spend the next trillion years playing a harp on top of a cloud?
Wouldn't it get boring?  Grin

Nope. Lack of belief. Do you believe there are no fairies in your garden or do you simply not believe they are there? Or do you believe they are there?

Exactly what I have been trying to get through to some. If you believe in something, just as was stated above, it is then a belief.
Gee, it's not that hard!!

This is waaaay over your soft head, Nicola.

Lack of belief = having no notion. That's the kinda gal you are.
Not believing = having considered a set of notions (NB!!!! Notions have been considered!) and rejecting a particular attitute towards them, that is, an attitude of taking them to be meaningful.

Spot,

How about you explain why you need to differentiate between belief and lack of belief?

Isn't it just a question of semantics?

I believe there are no fairies in my garden.

I know there are no fairies in my garden.

given the possibilityt of multiverses and even overlapping/folded space you KNOW no such thing. You just have a belief that is credible. nothing more.

and in this lesson, we learn that 'proof' is realive. absolute proof cannot byt definition, exist.
