Assigning a penalty rate on polution has been pretty standard practice in modern economies for some time.

You pour acid into the river, you get fined. You dont pour acid into the river, you dont.

But Co2 isn't a pollutant, it is a natural by-product of life itself..

Yes.  CO2 is a natural by-product of life itself which is a pollutant above certain concentrations.  Just like manure.

Define "polutant" ?

Any substance that makes the world worse off would be mine. Radiation is "natural" too.  Doesnt mean I want to live near fukushima.

Simple...a 'polLutant' is a chemical or group of chemical that do not occur naturally in the natural world without human intervention...

Making up your own definitions!!!! Good for you!

Sorry champ - but you will find that the most common pollutants do occur naturally in the real word - ie. sewage, silt/sedimentation, salt, dust, etc etc.

Even by your retarded definnition, CO2 is a pollutant, since it is the human intevention of burning fossil fuels that has caused CO2 to be present in the atmosphere at elevated levels.

CO2 can be a pollutant.  It is a simple fact.  Learn it.

Lack of artic ice sheet this year, causing northern oceans to absorb much more energy, intensifing Sandy.

There wasnt much in heat content in the ocean that wasnt of normal levels.

Except for 3 or 4 degrees above average.  Roll Eyes

Anyway, when you look at the damage seen on those beach front houses on staten island, it not hard to understand why Tim Flannery made sure when he brought coastal land that  it was well above 10m above sea level (ie a point, not a beach).

No.  Everythg I mentioned can be pollutants.

You need to look up what the word means.
You probably should look up what the word "sewage" means too.  If you use water - you have sewage.  Simple as that.

Let me help you out.  You seem to be labouring under the misconception that you know what you are talking about.  It is clear you don't.

pollutant  (p-ltnt)
A substance or condition that contaminates air, water, or soil. Pollutants can be artificial substances, such as pesticides and PCBs, or naturally occurring substances, such as oil or carbon dioxide, that occur in harmful concentrations in a given environment. Heat transmitted to natural waterways through warm-water discharge from power plants and uncontained radioactivity from nuclear wastes are also considered pollutants.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/pollutant

Natural substances can be pollutants.  Stop trying to make up your own definitions of commonly used words.  It is a retarded thing to do.

Sediment/silt can be a pollutant.  Naturally occurring salts can be pollutants.  Animal faeces can be pollutants.  Sewage is a pollutant.  Co2 can be a pollutant.

Stop making things up -  you are making a fool of yourself.

You have been constantly repeating the lie that the earth has not been warming for the past 16 years.

Why is the arctic ice cap shrinking, global glacial mass balance decreasing, sea levels rising and ocean temperatures increasing if the earth has not been warming for 16 years?

How is it you think that the earth has not been warming for the past 16 years when the global temperature anomaly to the long term average has been positive for every one of those 16 years?

Why do you post lies and then run away?

It is not my concern that you do not like the empirical data provided by MET that shows a 0.5 degree anomaly today, that is the same 0.5 anomaly 16 years ago. No warming for 16 years.

I cant help it that there are less hurricanes today and that sandies tracking area of ocean has not warmed for 70 years.

It is your concern that you do not like empirical data. The real world.

Now run along and answer your own question.

This petition is for the complete ban of Dihydrogen monoxide.

Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Dihydrogen monoxide:
- is the major component of acid rain
- contributes to the "greenhouse effect"
- it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
- contributes to erosion
- accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals
- may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes
- has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients

Despite the dangers, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:
- as an industrial solvent and coolant.
- in nuclear power plants.
- in the production of styrofoam.
- as a fire retardant.
- in many forms of cruel animal research.
- as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal.

The American government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.

If you don't believe me - do an experiment.

Dig up some "dirt" from your garden and place it in gutter in front of your house.
Then - call your local Department of the Environment (or whatever it is called in your state) and tell them what you have done.

Here is some information from WA that may explain things for you:

Will Huricane Sandy, hitting home to one of the world centres, finally make the US do something about its co2 emissions ?

I think its the first step. More super-storms to follow will all chip away at the deniers stranglehold on US politics.

Judging from past form, they will probably open a hurricane worship centre near where the storm hit and go on about how they are not anti-hurricane, only anti-extreme hurricane, and they'll elect Storm Boy prez at the earliest opportunity.

Planet earth is billions & billions of years old.
Measuring the last 16 years and deciding that is a comparison trend to prove theories is stupid.
It is like measuring your garden but only measuring the first 0.001mm and deciding what to do!
