When asked why you don't support it - you cannot give an answer.

Incorrect.

I've said on several occasions why I don't support it:

There's no reliable, convincing evidence.

You haven't been paying attention.

Try to keep up, OK?

Yep.

Nope.

Why was the evidence you were shown that most of the increase in atmospheric CO2 in recent decades has been anthropogenic not credible Greggery?

Can you explain what was flawed about it?

You have been asked - 6? 7? times now to explain.

Why do you keep saying it is "not credible" - then run away?

What are you frightened of admitting Greggery?  Come on - you can tell me.

Don't keep running away big guy.  Have a good think.  Tell us why you think the evidence you have been shown is not credible.

Come on - I know you can do it.

"16 years"

Tree rings.

Ice cores.

Oh dear Greggery?!?!?!?!

You are not also going to agree with that moron who keeps telling us that the earth has not warmed for 16 years!?!?!

Seriously Greggery!?!?!!

BTW:  What do tree rings and ice cores have to do with the measurement of global temperatures in the past 16 years?

You are wasting your time, rabbitoh. Greggery would rather remain ignorant than admit he was wrong. It seems he can't even identify a warming trend, so it is highly unlikely he has the intellectual capability to understand the physics behind AGW.

Exactly!

Please learn the difference between 'weather' and 'climate'.

Not sure why you posted that graph.

Nothing in there about anthropogenic causes.

Do you actually know what AGW stands for?

If you're going to be an AGW alarmist you really should check the basics first.

pecs a real weirdo

he's a stone cold left winger on basically everything and takes the most cliched positions imaginable

but on climate change inexplicably he's standing shoulder to shoulder rank and file with alan jones, lyndon larouche and chris monckton

he seems to have a nose for sniffing out the most implausible and worst possible positions and repeating them ad nauseum until everybody else wants to leave the room

What is suprising is Australia's energy white paper advocates increasing our coal production, while also acknowledging global warming,   which is in itself completely contradictory.

The only excuse you can grant it is that white papers although aiming to look long term, are really only relevant for the next parlimentary term or two, so we can put it down to "something to be addressed later".

World demand will drop for coal in the future. What preparations we make for our economy is the pertenent question, so we dont get stuck in a one-way street.

So sorry I don't fit into one of your cliched little boxes, Ash-Leigh.

On climate change I have a completely open mind.  I've consistently maintained that my views could be changed.  AGW may indeed be a sound hypothesis.

My issue is with brainwashed AGW alarmists who insist on spreading fear.  I'm starting to think the ones in this forum are actually being paid by the government.

After all, a frightened population is easy to control.

Not too good at reading, are you?

I've consistently maintained that I have no problem with people taking precautionary action against climate change.

Have as many carbon taxes as you like.
Shut down the oil and coal industry.
I couldn't care less.

Seems you made another silly (incorrect) assumption about me.  Tsk Tsk.   Roll Eyes

That level of counter-intuitism  usually spells "troll".   Maybe he's taking the extreme view to make that extreme look stupid.

How do you propose we get the change required to stop AGW causing something really bad, without trying to explain how really bad it would be ?

You are right that fear is a tool for government. Usually fear of change, not fear of status quo.  (although since they sold out to coles, I can understand that).

I'd rather be fearful of global warming, than fearful of terrorists.

Now that poses an interesting question?  Which one is the bigger threat?

Terrorists do kill people.  That's a fact.  We know that through objective and verifiable observation.

However, AGW has the potential to kill many more people in many more countries.  If the predictions are true, then yes, being fearful of AGW would seem more sensible than being frightened of a few crazy terrorists.

What are Australians more scared of at the moment?  It would be interesting to see some sort of poll.

Thankfully, I'm frightened of neither.

Like I said, the two fears are not comparable.

AGW is a great study of human nature and the political structures of the world.  How and when we react will be taught in political, science, and economic classes for centuries to come.

How much physical evidence will cause the type of changes required. How much storm damage ?  How much sea level rise ? etc.

It will be fascinating.
