Yes, because the hierarchy covered up for the offenders. This has been common knowledge within the community for decades. The parishioners should have lobbied the church to take appropriate action. They are all guilty by association because they stood by and did nothing to protect the children. Those few who went against the church and reported certain incidents should be praised. They were mostly the parents of abused children so it would have taken a certain amount of guts to go against the people you trusted.
